Symbolizing the theme of Li-Toon-Awa, friend- ship is the literal translation of its name. The prin- cipal function of this organization is the giving of assistance and advice to freshmen women and aiding them to adapt themselves to university life. Mem- bers of the club we re hostesses at the tea for fresh- men girls last fall. The organization was founded at West Virginia University in 1927 and is the outstanding honorary activity for sophomore women. Rhododendron, junior women ' s honorary, was or- ganized so that recognition could be given to junior women who had shown promise in scholarship, leader- ship and character and to give them an opportunity to work together for the benefit of the university. The organization ' s most outstanding project is the sponsorship of Rhododendron hlouse, a cooperative establishment organized on the campus in order to help university women to live as economically as pos- sible and yet give them the advantages of group life. Council serves as a governing board for the entire association. Officers for the council were: Martha Mae Conner, president; June Watson, first vice-president; Rose Mary Smith, sec- ond vice-president; Louise Bergdoll, secretary; and Ann Beatty, treasurer. Among the varied activities of A. W. S. have been Its sponsorship of an Open hHouse at Moore hHall every Friday evening and the annual Gold Diggers Ball, at which the women entertain the men. Fresh- man guidance meetings were also held in order to acquaint the Incoming girls with the campus and all the complications of college life. [25] U
