Pov ers granted it by the student constitution include the appointment of a student budget commission, whose responsibilities are spread far and thinly over student matters fiscal, and super- vision of student election. During the past year the Council was host to all other college student councils of West Vir- ginia at the annual convention of the State Fed- oration of College Students. Members of the 1940-41 Student Council are: James McCartney, president of the student body; hHelen Taylor, student body vice-president; Robert Mellace, senior class president; Charles Brown and Jane Shaffer, senior man and woman representatives; Jack Browning, junior class pres- ident; Robert Spiker and Betty Stemple, junior man and woman representatives; Guy Peterson, sophomore class president; Frank Roy Yoke, freshman class president. t 101

In it are represented nearly all of the activities of the University- academic and extra-curricular. I wish to commend the editors of the Monticola for the fine way in which the puhlication has heen pre- sented, and I know that as the memhers of the graduating class leaf through this volume in the years to come it will recall to their minds many happy days on the campus. To the seniors who have completed their work at the University and are leaving the campus, may I say that I hope you will find many opportunities to come hack and visit your Alma Mater and that you will always maintain an active interest in its activities and progress.
