The 1980-81 ARCH is dedicated to Mrs. Freda Wagstaff Burkett in recognition of her many years of loyal and outstanding service to West Virginia State College and the significant contributions she has made to our institution. Mrs. Burkett is a graduate of West Virginia State College, holding a B.A. degree with ma- jors in Music and Art. She received further training in business and industry while work- ing for the State of New York and the Federal Government in various positions. She returned to West Virginia State College to serve as Secretary to the Registrar, and in 1966 she was appointed Director of Financial Aid Ad- ministrators, and the Midwestern and Na- tional Associations of Student Financial Aid. She also works with The Minorities Open Forum and was recently appointed to the Low Income Disadvantaged Student Policy and Program Committee of the Midwestern Association of Financial Aid Personnel. She uses her academic background and career experiences to render effectivservice to her community. Her genuine love and concern for the elderly persons are demonstrated in the kind deeds that she performs for them and the pleasure she derives from this special involve- ment with others. She is a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church and its Women’s Chorus. And she is also a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. For relaxation, music heads her list. She col- lects all types of records, preferring classical, semi-classical and jazz music. Travel is also one of her special interests. A loyal and spirited alumna, she looks forward to Alumni reunions and Homecoming events.
