After review by the college’s staff and the submission of a number of recommendations, the final documents were prepared for presentation to the Board of Regents in January 1979. The campus development plan appears in three volumes. The first volume surveys the condition and needs of the college’s buildings and grounds, and presents recom- mendations for overcoming the deficiencies cited. Volume Two presents the planning data that were used for developing the space needs for the college’s instructural, athletic, and administrative activities. The third volume presents the scope of the proposed plan with recommendations for new construction, renovation, and changes in the campus grounds. in the development will be three new buildings. A Community College Building, housing the programs for Industrial Technology, Consumer Services, and Community College administration, a Natural Sciences Build- ing to replace Hamblin Hall, and a new Field House - Gymnasium which will replace Fleming Hall. After con- struction of the new buildings, the old ones will be demolished. Buildings which will receive extensive reova- tions include the Drain-Jordan Library, Wilson Student Union, and Jones Hall. The library will also receive a major addition. Currently in progress is a thorough renovation of the Administration Building. The layout of the campus will change so that activities are distributed more evenly over the central quad- rangle. Traffic and parking patterns will be altered by shifting vehicular traffic to the perimeter of the campus New sidewalks and malls in the center of campus along with extensive plantings will provide a more attractive setting. The attached summary shows the phasing of these developments The facilities master plan looks to the future of West Virginia State College.
