VALLEY CONCANNON THE OLD AND WEST VIGO HIGH SCHOOL THE NEW M- StsM M %t r W III i IM III 111 IN 111 III 111 III rvm sm7mffm . Foreword Two high schools- -Cone annon of Sugar Creek Township and Valley of West Terre Haute, both in the newly-formed Metropolitan School District of West Vigo-- were merged to form the new West Vigo High School, It was built with the hope of providing better opportunities for all concerned, with a richer program of studies and greater facilities for implementing the teaching of these studies. By a large popular vote the students chose the name Vikings for their school and teams. Since a yearbook is a rather rambling story of events and people of the school year with only a thread of theme to hold them together, and since the medieval Icelandic or Norse prose narratives relating achievements and events in the history of a personage, family, or group were called sagas, and since the adventuring and pioneering Vikings were Norsemen, it was deemed fitting and proper to name this book SAGA. This SAGA will tell of the legends and customs and herioc exploits of the school, not in prose or verse, but almost entirely in pictures. Our theme is In the Beginning. To Mr. Louis Hayden of the Lawrence-Krehe Studios we express our gratitude especially, for his time and efforts, for the excellent quality of his work, and for the donation of his pictures. He has been a true friend to the school. To our artists we are grateful, especially to Bob McQueary who made almost all of the etchings, to Shirley Liggett who made the endsheets. and to Gerald vValden who drew the two Viking warriors. To our advertisers we give hearty thanks, for without them we could not have undertaken the venture. We appreciate the patience, consideration, and the co-operation given us. Again we say we thank you. We hope you like the SAGA. 1 112 Autographs 113 I MMe S ■' J.
