Remember the Homecoming football game winl the second consecutive win in ten years., or perhaps the last, split second swish that could make us basketball champions. 12 kin Ml In 1 -4' iixgg.-,A .,.,. 1' V . The Juniors refused to give up the lead they had contained throughout the week, until the final moments, when the Seniors seized first place by winning the limbo. One ofthe most humorous events ofthe week was the pep assembly at Freds . It was here that some of our own W.V. teachers joined in the fun and showed us how some real dancing is done. Our dear sweet Mrs. Paschen can still tell men where to go, when telling Mr. Grauer Go sit on it . During the week other activities such as powder puff football and dress-up days made the entire week very exciting. I'm sure it will be a week the seniors will cherish and the freshmen won't soon forget. 20 Sit on itl' ffl fmt! Nw av K I IQ 'x R' 459 Jw ,QM ,lf ,- .1'- ,,, XR K 'Nz-37,5 .5 .Q N, gl, ni 9 fx fm S? Rams Beach Vikings Z6-7 The seasick Vikings were no match for the ripping power of the confident West Valley Rams, as Friday nights Homecoming game came to an end. Half back Karl Meier was elected defensive player of the game with 17 carries for a total of 95 yards, not to mention his 2 touchdowns. Joe Headley, offensive right guard, was awarded with 3 ram awards and offensive player of the game. Dale Wakasugi, in his second year as quarterback completed five out of ten passes for a total of 76 yards. Dale completed one touchdown pass and ran with the pigskin to clinch the victory. The powerful Ram defence capsized the Viks to an embarrassing 10 yards rushing. 22 Homecoming royalty, clockwise: King Kevin Loomis, Queen Teri Kotlarz, Cheryl Boiselle, Ron Eakin, Marty White, Mark Ratcliff, Steve Beehler, Dolores Cornelius. We spent the first four months listening to Wilkinson's lines of dribble about how to make layouts, shoot photographs, meet deadlines, sell ads, and a whole bunch of other junk nobody really cares about. As the deadlines rolled past us we began to realize this yearbook would never be finished, and we would have to be tough to face the W.V. student body next fall when they realize that there was no yearbook and five thousand bucks missing from the A.S.B. fund. So if this does get finished and you don't like it, you?-d better slfut your mouth or you'll get snuffed out by the mob! I DUS TRIAL AR TS The West Valley Industrial Arts Club consists of 33 active members, with an even number of guys and girls. We've had a fantastic year and have been involved with many activities as a club. Fund raising projects include: a concession booth at Central Washington State Fair, advertising and assembly of the Football and Basketball programs, ASB Woodcutting project, after-game dance, maintaining the pop machines, and game concessions. With the money we earned we went on a sledding party, held fun nights, provided free refreshments for all participants ofthe WV Invitational Track meet and sponsored the Winter Sports Banquet. In addition we took an educational and recreational trip to the State Capitol and surrounding areas. We learned a lot and had a great time! ll The Industrial Arts Club will continue to contribute their time and energy to promotion of school spirit and pride. 56 CLUB OFFICERS: Cherl Gagnier Vice President, Joe Scherschligt President, Alice Hall Treasurer, Sarah Messenger Secretary. Consistant performances by Ron Eakin led the team to victory, including three first place finishes. Ron was also the team Captain, and missed going to state by one second. Jeff Trammell, and Terry Yeigh shared the Inspirational Award. Though the girls were few in numbers they were strong on talent. The Rams recovered to win 3 of their last 4 league games, securing a berth for the District Tournament. The Ellensburg Bulldogs proved too tough for the Rams and the season was ended the first night of play. Impressive individual performances were made during the season by Steve West who averaged 19 points a game with a shooting percentage of 49fZJ, and was selected to the All Mid-Valley Team, the only Junior to do so. The team proved they had what it takes compiling a 5-4 record capturing 4th place in the league. This attributed to a great team effort and being able to come through in clutch situations. The two-week teachers strike didn't seem to bother the teams ability to come thru. They made-up 3 games in 2 days, winning 2 out of the 3. Their five season wins included beating always tough Sunnyside, Ellensburg, and Wapato. With wins also over Prosser, and Grandview. The -I.V. team also showed they had what it takes as they went undefeated, and took lst place in the league. The J.V. team was coached by Amilicar Portillo, West Valley's foreign exchange student. Ernie Edwards scored on an off tackle run on W.V.'s next possession to lead the Rams in their first win ever over Wilson. The class of '79 can be very optimistic in the future of the Football program at West Valley. Their team is blessed with the desire and ability to give the Ram fans many outstanding accomplishments on the Football field. Any time a new principal begins to work with a student body and faculty he is naturally apprehensive. Particularly, when the school immediately evidences changes in graduation requirements and a new thinking in terms of attendance and tardy responsibilities. If those changes weren't enough, the district went through the turmoil of a complete breakdown with the resulting work stoppage, and calendar modifications that tested everyone's patience and good will. Even with all this, no one stopped working for a better school community. Our A.S.B. organization functioned better than ever before. Our band and singing groups developed a quality such that we anticipate with pride every new competitive opportunity. Athletically, we established ourselves as a school with solid programs which promise contenders in every sport in future years. Our pep assemblies were second to none in the valley for interest, enthusiasm and just plain good preparation. ln our classrooms there emerged a greater concentration on grades, progress and learning activities. All in all the accomplishments are a fitting tribute to both the staff and student body. To the graduating seniors, we are confident of your future success if you give the same concern for the broad community that you have shown here. We hope to become the kind of school you will take pride in for years to come as succeeding classes build on the start made this year.
