66 99 The pride of West Valley was the HB squad basketball team. They won five out of twenty-one games and provided many thrilling moments for the spectators during the season. Two of their most exciting victories were those over Selahis freshmen squad and Highland. Both games were won by very close scores. The 'ABN squad was coached by Art Hutton who did a very fine job with the boys. Many of the team were freshmen who show tremendous promise of becoming great players in the next three years. If they keep up the good work. West Valley is assured of a successful season soon. and immovable and fast Kneeling: Richard Esparza, Roy Campbell, Chuck Luna, John Gavin, Miles Barber, Bob Perez. Bob Bonnet! Carl Brown The West Valley fans can be proud of the Hams for, although the team failed to win a game, they were in there fighting all the way. The boys gained experience which we expect them to use to good advantage next year. With only one Senior and only a few Juniors on the squad, most of the team will be back for two more years. At the end of the season, West Valley was awarded the sportsmanship trophy which stands as a tribute to the fine showing, conduct, and sportsmanship displayed by the West Valley team and fans. Now we are looking towards the day when we can win both the district championship and the sportsmanship trophies. Coach Elmer Cherry is to be commended for his work with the team. We're sure that next year will bring better luck for the Rams. Would reach down and grapple with the land, lf Ralph Velasquez Rlthard Blrkby
