High Jr. Var .....,. 25 West Valley 27 12, West Valley 6 ' West Valley 7 That like a thought should have control ln August, 1955, the first meeting was held to determine how many boys would turn out for football. Over fifty boys were present. This was narrowed down to thirty- four hard working, spirited team mates. A They were faced with many obstacles. They had no showers, no dressing rooms, no field of their own, no goal post, no schedule, and no equipment. For many, this was their first season of football. Yet, with practice, many boys learned and improved steadily. The wonderful school spirit displayed by all the students and the cute mascot Butchie', added to their fighting spirit. They experienced the thrill of wearing the first new uniform of the school-the beautiful Columbia Blue suits. Although it was not a completely successful year in games won, it was very suc- cessful in terms of experience gained. Coach Art Hutton and his assistant Elmer Cher- ry, worked patiently with them and were of considerable help. The letter winners for the season were Ray Esparza, Dave Larsen, Tal Under- wood, Ralph Velasquez, John Gavin, Chris Perez, Bob Jones, Cary Smith, Dick Birk- by, Bob Bonnett, Chuck Collins, Fred Hanson, Carl Brown, Malon Zeigler, Bernerd Lovestrand, John Ashbaugh, Lonnie Stull, George Velikanje, Jerry Shafer, Paul Mor- ton, Walt Swanson, Larry Walker, and Craig Hotchkiss. Ralph Velasquez was voted inspirational award winner and Lonnie Stull was voted the captain for next year's squad.
