Band The band, under the able direction of Mr. Alvin Loeffler, claimed thirty-seven members. They performed for pep assemblies. football and basketball games. and presented two concerts with the chorus. The hand worked for new uniforms, which they hope to get soon, and the proceeds from various band activities swelled the hand uni- form fund which was so generously started hy the West Valley Kiwanis Club. The officers of the band this year were Fred Houck, president, Lou Junker. vice-presidentg Karen Griffith, secretary, Marcia llrown. treasurer, Bettie Mcljherson. reporter, and ,lack Enhom, sergeant-at-arms. Fred Houck also served as student conductor. Flute Trio The flute trio composed of Bettie McPherson, Glenda Hammerstad and Marcia Brown was one of the few small instrumental groups at West Val- ley. This group played stuns- very fine numbers at the concerts.

The members of the club worked on projects which they took to the Science Fair held in Spokane during the spring. The projects were from many different phases of science, including electronics, bacteriology, and also a model of an active volcano. Although the Ski Club was unable to buy team parkas this year, the ski team consisting of Tom Ward, Sam Ward, Dave Larsen, and ,lack Enbom took part in many races both in Washington and Idaho and made a very good showing. The purpose of the Ski Club is to promote interest in skiing at Wlest Valley. Everyone interested in skiing, whether beginner or expert, may be- long to the club. Officers for this year were president, Sam Ward, vice-president, Jack Enbomg sec- retary, Jo Ann Parks, treasurer, Tom Ward, publicity chairman, Ken Ormiston, and program chair- man, Walt Swanson.

Drill Team The drill team, made up of Pep Club Members, spent many nights practicing marching and finally gave a very good demonstration of their abilities at the Selah- West Valley basketball game. As the band played Semper Fidelis, this group of girls, dressed in white pedal pushers and Pep Club sweaters, executed their formations with perfect timing. Mrs. Bettie Jo Dowd, their instructor, and all of West Valley can well be proud of these girls.
