Over and over again the Junior Varsity team practiced their various sets and spikes until every player of the team was practically dreaming volleyball. Starting in late summer and practicing devotedly throughout the season, the J.V. team was perhaps the best it had ever been. Because of a large turnout for the team there was a good selection of players to choose from. The Coach picked the best of the group and then ran them through many practices and drills, The J.V. team, like the varsity, had a vastly different season from the year before and it was for the better. The players were spirited and they tried hard at every game, winning the majority of them. This trend is expected to carry over to next year and the large number of returning players are expected to be even better than they were this year. Some of the members will undoubtedly move up to the Varsity squad but there will be many eager spikers and setters trying for the new spots, This year was an excellent year for the Junior Varsity volleyball team and the outlook for next year is better than it has ever been Returning a serve, Leslie Quakenbush hlts the ball solldly.

PREPARING FOR NEXT YEAR, THE JUNIOR VARSITY TEAMS WERE THE BUILDING BLOCKS OF THE FUTURE It is often said that everything goes in cycles. This could be true with the West Volleylunior Varsity Football teom. They were down at the beginning of the season, but they began to worls their way up and there was o definite improvement in passing, running, bloclsing, and lsiclsing slsills. Although they improved considerably, the teom still didn't hove quite what it tools. This was largely because of the number of vacant spots on the Varsity squod that had to be filled. Naturally the best Net would raise the place of last yeor's Senior, which left the JV squad shorthonded. Despite their record, the team still had an important learning season with many young players gaining valuable experience, This experience will be essential in future years and next season should prove to be one with better, more mature ployers, The cycle should get better in the win column, not just the experience column. ln addition to the players being more experienced, the cooch will also be more experienced and he will lsnow haw to wotls with the players becouse he got to lsnow the way they played, Building a winning team is better than losing a winning teom, and because of this we can Iools forword to next yeor with high expectations.
