Eoch yeor horbors, fresh, chollenging events ond for the Wolfpocls gridders the 1979-80 seoson proved to be extremely chollenging. Guided by Heod Coach Joe Cociori, the West Volley footboll teom emborlsed upon o seoson which welcomed the orrival of the Polmer Moose ond Wosillo Worriors into Region Vl ploy, increosing competition. Commencing the seoson with o valued Region title to defend, West met the Eielson Rovens in o match which emphosized the undeniable foct thot, with only four returning offensive storters, the offensive line wos young and slightly inexperienced. West bottled rigorously to lseep Eielson out of scoring position, but the Ravens flew the coop ond won 19-O. Following the first loss the Wolfpocls journeyed south to Palmer only to suffer o defeot of 2056 after turning over the ball three times while in scoring position. The ensuing matches ogoinst otcherlvol Lothrop ond the Woslllo Warriors were horde fought defensive endeovors by the odversories, who norrowly avoided defeot using good poss defense ond o little lucls. The resilient Wolfpacls, with no wins ond four losses in the seoson, still hod one finol gome, Homecoming, ogoinst the North Pole Potriots in which to prove West wos still the one. A revved-up ond vostly improved Wolfpocls footboll teom tools the field the night of September 29 ond begon to ploy a gome which showed the true Wolfpocls in action. The spirited teom in red-ondegold devostoted the Pots with superb offensive maneuvers ond incredible gool line stonds os they moved toword o victory of 22418. Though the 1979-80 seoson wos not os triumphont os the prior one, Cooch Cociori stoted thot improvement and generol ottitude of the lsids wos good.
