MATMEN PROGRESSED, SPIRIT BOOSTERS PROVIDED TEAM SUPPORT While fascinated crowds watched the exciting sport of wrestling, the Mat Maids, who were sponsored and advised by Mrs. Nell Garvey, had a variety af duties to ulfill. As well as keeping the official time and score of each individual match, the team score, distributing oranges, and cheering the talented grapplers on to victory, the Mat Maids not only ran all home meets, but planned various fundraisers and decorated the boysf lockers each week Their theatrical talent was revealed when they donned wrestling warmsups and performed a skit during the Spirit Cake Assembly, During their big fundraiser, the Rackfarthon, they rocked to and fro in rocking chairs till the twinkling stars faded into dawn, .The Mat Maids' enthusiasm not only livened the commons with encouraging posters, but also boasted the wrestlers' spirit and morale After a busy and exciting match. Mat Maids Leslie Quakenbush, Randi Sole, and Peggy Williams take time out for fun and games. Draving the cold of Old Man Winter, the Hockey Cheerleaders' spirited cheers defrosted the chilly air and incited the Hockey Team's winning instincts Because of the new heated ice skating arena at the University, the Hockey girls gladly shed their winter gear and proudly displayed their new squad sweaters Chosen because of their cheering ability, their knowledge of hockey, and for their enthusiastic personalities, the Hockey Cheerleaders sold everything from doughnuts to candy in order to raise money to sponsor skating and pizza parties for the pucksters. Their work was rewarded when they traveled to Kenai, Anchorage, Kenny Lake, and Glenallen on the Hockey Road Trip, The girls spent the mqority of their cheering time outside in the dead of winter, which resulted in a few sniffles and coughs on the way back. Sponsored by Mrs. Jana Hyatt and Ms Beverly Byington, these rabble-rousers created an aura of Wolfpack pride throughout the season ... i.. A
