Cindy Hawkins, what a Wolf! Or is it Fox? West Valley has a fine group of spirit leaders to de- velop for future years in the Junior Varsity Cheerleaders . These young ladies were se- lected by a group of teachers who judged them by their abili- ty, personal appearance, voice quality, ability to cheer, and floor presence . Each girl was also required to perform their own individual cheer which they created themselves . The Varsity Boys Basketoall Team has undergone some major changes this past year. Such as school boundary changes which forced a couple of players to go to Lathrop, while the event of the age old ritual of graduation created the loss of a few more varsity players . This combined with many new and younger faces on the team, may be the reason behind the average win record . Working hard is the thing to do on this team. Working hard on running, shooting, passing, dribbling, etc. .. Out there in the front instructing them was coach Ted DeLeon, who was not by any means a push over, but a hard working coach . Two other members of the team in the background were managers, Sui Brown and Porcia Fenton, who taped the games as well as kept score. lt was all worth it in the end, though, when the lVlale- mutts were put in the doghouse on January 28th .
