wvwfw' Uur Foreign Friends Have Fun! The 1976-77 version of the Foreign Language Club is primarily dedicated to the consumption of any and every variation in food . The club, headed by lVladame VanEnkevort, had baked an interesting batch of cookies this year and compiled a cook book made-up of many, many, receipes from around the world. In addition to their food dominated performances, the group managed to go caroling at University Park Elementary School. Presi- dented by Kelly Riley, the troop has sledded down steep hills into potlucks and had grand times. Although the people are predominantly foreign language students, it is not a prerequisite for memoership. Vice President, Bob Cowgill, and Secretary! Treasurer, Lory Barsdate, tie up the officers for this past year's group of hungry souls-- next year looks to be even more Cfullfillingl I final ROW 1: Sylvia Slotnick, Lory Barsdate, Karen Hilliard, Anetta Davis, Eileen Beecher. Have you ever longed to live in some far-off land sur- rounded by new people and new cultures? Through American Field Services you can. Every September AFS looks fora Junior or Senior who is interested in spending a summer or year going to school in a foreign country . Applications are turned in to West's AFS sponsor, Audrey Copeland, and from there they go to the local AFS chapter for review, with an interview following . After the official work the applicants attend a get-acquainted party The selected few, whose names are announced after the party , have their applications sent to New York for further consideration. With the coming of spring comes the news: who made it, where they will go, who their host family will be . . . Lori Cartledge was selected to spend her 1976 summer in Sydney, Australia. She said, lt was really neat to be able to live in a foreign country and attend school . It en- abled me to see how different, yet similar, people around the world think and act.
