Leo and His Big Mac Attack! Leonard Neidhold was chosen to be a member of the 1976 lVlcDonald's All Ameri- can High School Band. He is among 102 of the nation's top high school musicians--two from each state and the Dis- trict of Columbia --who are selected each year to participate in the band sponsored by lVlcDonalds family res- taurants . Leo toured the East coast, with his big event being the Thanks- giving lVIacy's Parade. After a brief Christ- mas, Leo then flew to California where he re- met all his band cohorts There he played in the famed Tournament of Roses Parade held in Pasadena on New Year's Day. Fairbanks schools have been associated with Proj- ect NOW forthe past few years . The program offers an additional educational oppor- tunity for area high school natives. Such courses as art, photography, Native Culture, T.V. Production, Land Claims, and Journalism, are choice offerings for any na- tive high school student to take advantage of after one's normal school routine. ln addition to these extra classes they are able to participate in, the interested students have the oppor- tunity to travel and learn a bit more about this fair state. Thus far this year, the group has reached Anchorage where they attended the Alaska Federation of Natives Convention, Barrow for the Iditarod Races: and finally Juneau, the capital, where they were able to observe the legislative session being held. Through this travel- ing throughout Alaska, Alaskan natives have a chance to learn about their heritage and culture in a comfortable in class and on the scene atmosphere.
