4 West shows spirit on dress-up days. Going to school at night can be a bummer! West Lathrop was a start. For the first time the Falr- banks school system was forced to conform to theg needs of the community. Thus, Austin E. Lathrop High School was split into two schools but housed in one building. jLathrop became East and West and students were designated to a school by location. Soon after the first year started a mild hostility flared up and an East High student became an Eastie and a snob while West students were definitely the best! By the second year at West High half the student body was again ripped away to be boarded in the Main, building on Cushman Street where they became North Poli High. By and by West students came to love their s hool. North Pole was okay for they had once been West, but still felt a bit of contempt for East. The spirit of Eur great school was growing as was ,the population and Wet was be- coming the school to go to. 1 West Lathrop then underwent a sudden change. After just two short years as West Lathrop we were to become West Valley. There were many that hated this name and even the '76 grads demanded West Lathrop on their diplomas. The Juniors fought it out for West Lathrop on their rings but to no avail: West Valley was the name and West Valley was to be implanted on the band. Throughout time the name became more acceptable and we became known as West Valley High, home of the West Valley Wolf- pack and would be for many years to come. 1 , A Behmd the Blackest Cloud i 7
