As the 1954 55 school term rolled along so d1d the F F A Many of the boys showed at the state and county fa1rs where many pr1zes and champlon sh1ps were mented After gett1ng down to work at school we planned our farmmg programs These COHS1Sted of product1on, 1mprovement, and supplementary projects A h1ghl1ght of December for the chapter was the w1nn1ng of the County Parl1amentary Procedure S1x chapters competed our chapter came out f1rst w1th a gold ratlng' Early 1n the spr1ng we were able to rent a 50 acre farm We worked out a good rotatlon for It secured a crop loan and are now functlonlng properly We hope to secure good crops and worthwh1le exper1ence from manag1ng lt In February and March our pubhc speakmg held the spot l1ght In our chap ter el1m1nat1on contest the entr1es were narrowed down to those who were to compete 1U the county contest Rxch and Terry rece1ved gold rat1ngs 1n the county and went on to compete 1n the d1str1ct Other boys who rece1ved h1gh rat1ngs IH the county were Dave Stoltz, Ted Maneval Larry Brown Ray Ream snyder Stan Wmeland and Charles Reamsnyder In the d1str1ct Speaklng Con test at Delta w1th 25 schools competzng R1ch won the extemporaneous speak1ng contest and Terry was runner up 1n the wr1tten speech contest March 24 we all state f1nals Competlng agamst boys from all of the 15 Oh1o d1str1cts he was state runner up rece1v1ng a gold ratlng and a trophy As sprlng rolled around, xt was t1me to summar1ze our years act1v1t1es An aCt1V1t1CS report was entered 1n the state contest our chapter rece1ved a state and gold rat1ng In June we traveled to Columbus for state Judgmg state conventlon, and banquet Workmg on our farm our June PICHIC at Pokagon and a summer full of chapter and 1nd1v1dua1 act1v1t1es rounds out another full year State Farmer 'W- ' n V ' F o F o A 0 M V . , f' X! HILL-TUI' ECHO West Unity High School is proud of the fine work the Hill-Top Echo staff did in producing a neat, newsy monthly paper. One important im- provement in the paper this year was the change to the more profession- al looking three-column page. The backbone of the staff was Mr. Bert- hold, advisory Janet Dunson, editorg and Ronald Miller, assistant editor.
