During the year Mr. Kumph left us to enter business and Mr. Loren Carswell replaced him as our spon- sor. Our class sponsored a skating party at Rochester in the fall and in the spring we traveled to Chica- go for a day. We visited the Muse- um of Science and Industry, the Acquarium,and the Museum of Natural History. During the year Harold Hostetler, Bonnie Personette, and Tom Tucker joined our classg and Bob Jackson and Ralph Costello left our class to work. Entering our sophomore year we had a class of thirty members. Gary Gustafson, Vicki Hawkins, Beverly Haynes, Joan Masterson, Jean Mas- terson, Rosemary Stone, and Warren Harner joined our class. During the year we lost Sandra Sisk. In the fall we sponsored a skating party at Rochester, and in the spring Mr. James Cox, our sponsor, accompanied the class to Michigan City. During the summer we lost Ruby Samuels, Bonnie Personette, and Beverly Haynes. Tom Tucker moved to Bremen and Gary Gustafson joined the Army. Our sponsor for our jun- ior year was Mrs. Dorothy Huff. During the year we gave as our class play, NNo More Homeworkng and sponsored a car wash and a bake sale. In May we honored the sen- iors at the annual Prom which was held at the Colonial Gardens in Rochester. With the assistance of our parents we served at the Alumni Banquet. During our junior year John Jones came from North Liberty to join us. Mike Ross moved to Knox, and we lost John Morlock to farming. In the fall of 1958, twenty- five eager and happy seniors start- ed their last year of school at West High. Our sponsors were Miss Margaret Samuelson and Mr. Robert Rust, principal. During the past summer Jeri Gurtner moved to Bremen, and Jim Bailey moved to our commun- ity from Chicago. During the year we lost Jean Masterson, who became Mrs. Guy Flosenzier, and John Jonea who returned to North Liberty to finish his schooling. Last fall the seniors journeyed to Chicago with the Culver Bank as our host. We visited the Second Continental Bank Board of Trade, and the Federal Re- serve Bank. Our money making pro- jects for the year were the Senior Supper, our senior play entitled nFather Was a Housewifen, a bake sale and a car wash. The Junior- Senior Banquet was given in our honor by the junior class. All these memorable events led to our baccalaureate which was held on May 17, and our commencement on May 19. When our prized diplomas were signed and handed to us we fully rea- lized that WIn Ourselves Our Future Liesn. On May 8 twenty-two seniors and their sponsors boarded the Penn- sylvania Roadroad heading Eastward. We visited Washington D. C., Wil- liamsburg, and New York City.
