Dr. Cornette with his charming wife and sons, Marvin, Jimmy, and Billy. Commencement is everywhere a time when students and teachers share mingled feelings of gratitude and anticipation and sadness. So as Commencement, 1949, approaches, we are looking back on a year packed with living, ioy and sorrow, a striving toward more perfect democratic practices, fair sportsmanship, hard study, ancl frank counseling together of students and faculty. The great family that is West Texas State has had a good year. Mrs. Cornette and the boys and I are gratef.il that we have been allowed to become a part of the campus family so quickly. We have appreciated every courtesy, every help, every welcome given us by town and campus and region. The quality of mind and sturdiness of character we have seen in evidence everywhere makes us look to the years ahead with confidence. To all, and especially to the seniors, we wish a future in which the growth begun at West Texas State will continue in a way to bring rich satisfaction to each individual, and a better, more abundant life to all our land.
