W.S.H.S. Band With the boom of the drums, the clash of the cymbals, the toot of the horns, the ting of the bell lyre, and the bong of the sousaphone, the West Stanly Pep Band made its first appearance. Under the direction of Mr. James Preble the band boosted school spirit at pep rallies and home football games. The band changed from a pep band in football season to a concert band for the Christmas season. Later, plans were made for another concert in the spring. The members of the band and the instruments each member plays is as follows: Pat Tucker, Donna Barbee, Ileen Hunt, Jane Love, Ouida Carelock, and Connie McCoy, clarinet; Roger Barbee, Jimmy Efird, Joanne Phifer, saxophone; David Blair, trumpet; Rita Burris, French horn; Alan Whitley, Robert Majerick, cornet; Larry Petrea, sousaphone; Karen Burleson, bell lyre, Martha Slater, cymbals; Freddie Hartsell, baritone horn; Larry Haskins, Tony Lowder, Greg Sides, drum; Roger Hatley, Larry Huneycutt, trombone. 83
