KRIGHTQ Angelo Laveglia is seen in a familiar after-school Spanish session. Be- side him is '4Petsy', Murray. Fourth-year French has been added to the courses offered in the Language Department. Supplementing class work, a modern laboratory facilitates the learning of foreign languages including, besides French, Latin, German, and Spanish. Each year Mr. Laveglia selects outstanding stu- dents for membership in the Spanish National Honor Society. 15

KABO VEQ Miss Dorothy Shaw helps Dennis O'Connor pre- pare a bibliography for a term paper. fR1GHTj Richard Ryan and Bruce Theriaque listen attentively to Miss Marylou Carroll, who teaches juniors a survey course in American literature. The twelve-member English Department be- gan the year with a new Department Chairman, Joseph A. Plourde having been promoted to the position. Added to the staff were Mrs. Annette Arsenault and Miss Eliesabeth Bohlen. As a guide in curriculum development, the de- partment has been working with the Commission on English report of its five-year study of secon- dary English teaching. Also, a number of kin- escopes, issued by the Commission, demon- strating classroom practices were shown to the teachers. To supplement the regular course of study, the full series of Humanities, lilms was scheduled during the year for students in all classes.

Curriculum Stud Concern of Math Group Curriculum development is a principal concern of the Math Department at its regular meetings. Along this line, a new general math course has been designed for the practical use of noncollege- bound students. Mr. Phair is now advising the Math Club and Coaching the Mathletesh Willis Phair, in a familiar teaching stance, considers a problem. KABOVEj Department Chairman Lindzay Varnam takes advantage of the privacy of his office to prepare lessons. At LEFT1 newcomer Miss Merrilyn Brown seems to be bearing well the plight of the traveling teacher. 16
