President of the Student Government, Mitch Willey signs the enormous birthday card. Waiting to sign the 50-foot card are Libby Parker, Linda Gilbert, and Rick Hughes. West Springfield, proud of the accomplishments of the past year, celebrated its first birthday with typical Spartan Spirit. Students began planning Birthday Week with great en¬ thusiasm. A birthday cake decked with candles, a dress- up day, assemblies, a dance, cheerfully decorated halls, and a birthday card that was 50 feet long all helped to estab¬ lish another WS tradition. 28 Mike Young, President of the Junior Class blows balloons to be sold by the Junior Class.
