'-I3FlOl3l-JECY Dear Ar Howland I was strolling through Erie the other day when I came across this sign u we eveafeel Cone QM See The Swarm Shecemmah Semacluah Skelemak S tfk Having nothing to lose, I went in I then entered a room with a def inite Oriental atmosphere I heard a mysterious voice tell me to be seated and seeing no chairs, I sat on the floor In floated a crye tal ball apparently, suspended in mid air I hadn't any more than started to stare into that inverted fish bowl when I found myself walking out through the door saying he was a faker In a matter of Jlshing to get that Swami off my mind, I went into the church near there Iuch to my amazement, the preacher bore a resemblance to Jack Augustine who had started out in nYouth For Christ' work when he was young It was now interplanetary through Auggie's efforts The music was as stirring as the sermon It wasn't until later that I re alized the pianist was Rachel Wheeler I shook hands with Jack and Rachel at the door and wished them luck as I went on my way hadn't anymore than stepped through the door when a grotesque figure just about ran over me I looked up to see what had hit me, and I finally came to the conclusion that it was a new space suit W must have recognized each other at the same time because as I tried to find a way to get high enough to talk to him he started to climb out Out stepped Jim Barlow who was a tester for these large space suits He told me he got tired of looking up at people and decided to look down for awhile Jim gave me his collapsible atomic plane which he always carried in his pocket I flew around for awhile and finally ran out of atoms Luckily I was in front of an atomic service station I told them to fill up my capsule and then I realized the attendant was Dick Baxter I asked why he was still an attendant, and he said he was the owner of a line of atomic service stations He was just breaking in a new man Not wanting to interfere, I went on my way I hadn't gone far before I had an unusual sensation Hunger!!! I stopped at the first restaurant I saw The sign said 'Rae and Mech's Home Cooked Meals I was ushered in with the greatest court esy to a reserved table I was the l,OO0,000,000th customer and was to dine like a king with the managers Their nagps sounded familiar and I can't say I was too surprised when they tqnned out to be Rae Seeley and Mech Grubke The food was the best I had eaten in ages I asked where they had acquired such good cooks' Instead of answering , they led me to the kitchen I almost fell over when I saw Martha Morrow and Elaine Brockett I inquired where they learned to cook like my Mother used to cook back in the l95O's They said Polly Ruland had the only cooking school in the universe that taught the old style of cooking They told me I should go over and see Polly's all girl basketball team composed of her own daughters and coached by her husband. I said I'd try and bade them good bye. For some relaxation I went to an old time movie. The title of the show was nThe Greatest Comedy Team of a Century.n And who should be the stars of the show but Doug Wheeler and Luard Burge. I never laughed so hard as I did at those two. At least I thought so until I 9' W . , : frtzost - twenty, mlnutes after stepping into my space ship,.I was on the Moon. - I . I . . L n . - . . e In. .. . ..' -

heard a couple in back of me just rolling in the aisles. I turned around to be confronted by Doug and Luard in person. We chatted until the next show came on. It was a 1950 version of 'Arsenic and Old Lace' starring Lola Ellis in the part of Aunt Abby. As we left, Doug told me Lola had married the director and before we had a chance to say good-bye, we were separated by the crowd I was cruising along when I heard some beautiful strains of nusic Being a Spike Jones fan I went into the auditorium and investigated that unusual music It was the Planet Pluto's Polluted Philharmonic under the direction of Maestro Nilliam CBeethovenJ Huntley After the concert he told me he also played solo trumpet in 'The Band of America? It is still the leading band of the Solar System I left Bill, but not before he had borrowed five dollars from me After Bill left, I stood amazed at the structure of the public auditorium and I learned from a bystander that it had been engineered and designed by that famous ex admiral Bob Meek who had been discharg ed with the highest honors obtainable He was now head professor of higher math at the Interplanetary University The beauty of the murals on the walls was overwhelming The style of painting was familiar but I didn't recognize it until I saw the name of Wanda Fails written gracefully under each mural As I left the auditorium I started down a street full of beauti ful homes I noticed a cute little girl playing on the porch and be fore I could think, she had fallen off I ran to where she was lying and administered first aid As her mother came from the house I recognized her at once It was Marlene Ceeder As we exchanged wel comes her son Billy came out and informed us he had called Dr Makay He had no sooner spoken than 'Doc was there Sure enough, it was Elmer Since he had started out as a T V technician I was inquist tive as to how he had become a 'sawbones ' He told me that after he was able to fix any T V set, fixing humans was a cinch After 'Moe had left I was complimenting Marlene on Her beautiful home and she told me that Bob was the proud pappy of ten children Since all was well, I departed As I left the residential section, I wandered into the business district There, before me, was the 'Hourly Sentinel' building I had often heard of this news service and had always been amazed at how they could turn out news every hour on the hour I thought I would like to meet the editors So I wandered into the spacious hall wa y where I was momentarily lost until I felt a friendly tap on the bade I picked myself up from the floor and turned to meet Jack Vacco e was now head of the sports department of the 'Hourly Sentinel' and he said he would show re around the buildin I was pleasantly surprised an efficient sec etary she awoke upon our entering Not wanting to disturb her any further we proceeded to the ed1tor's office and closed the door on the snoring behind us There sat Audrey Dodge and Linda Evans wko were Co editors We talked over old times and the time passed so quickly I felt I should be leaving They suggested Jack take me to tke society room for another surprise We opened the door to hear a familiar voice recording the latest choice bits of gamip Sure Nuff' it was Elaine Everden She said she was also running a 'Lonely Hearts Club' on the side After hearing the latest, Jack an I parted 14 the hallway where we had met Next to the 'Hourly Sentinel' was a roomlng house of immense sum The ign said 'Carr's CollosalCastle ' As I stopped to read the sign, a uniformed doorman escorted me into the office There was Alice Chrr who was the owner of tkis large rooming house She showed me around her 'Castle' and it was on the elevator that I ran into Ruth Devtle Ruth was really going to the top in the world as an elevator operator In ner spare ' 16 Ier real job wa that of teaching physical educa .
