New Faces At W. S. WI wonder who we are going to have this year?' Every year in August this question circulates through the Happy Valley SPQPGVTB. To avoid confusion, it should be stated that all the tongue waggling concerns the members of the facung Although school has been in session now for almost a month, some students are still asking questions about the new faces at WSHS. The grapevine has failed to spread the info, so this paper is going to pick the slack in the Mrs. Dorothy is not really new to West Snyder. Six years ago Mrs. Bingman left her commercial classroom here to work in the elementary schools. A graduate of Upper Darby High School and Susquehanna University, she now lives in Beaver Springs. Commenting oi the school, she says she is 'glad to be back to the high school after being SWB? for six years. Beware!! There is a Mlngo living in Room '51 The Chief Logan and Indiana University of Pa, graduate in Miss Diane Marker who teaches French. Miss Marker now lives in Glenwood, outside of Lewistown, to be cont. next CO1- L rieu 1U one month. She finds the 'Students and teachers very co- operat1ve.' The chemistry de- partment has a 'Flying Dutchman' this year. The lebanon Valley graduate is Mr. David Stull. A Sellnsgrove native who now lives ln his hometown, he says that he 'likes the size' of WSHS. In addition to his chem- istry dut1es,Mr. Stull teaches freshman science. Hailing from Mc- Alisterville, Miss Nancy Warner comes to WSHS from East Juniata High School and Shipp- ensburg State College. She has found her spot in the commercial de- partment. Miss Varner out that West 'is a very nice fied is a former Peace Corps member from Mifflintown. A grad- uate of Juniata High School and Shlppens- burg State Co1lege,Mr. Roger Whitesel teaches 7th grade science and senior high math. He served two years as a teacher in the Peace Corps in Ghana, West Africa. He observes that 'the people and students seem very nice, but it is a very crowded s1tuat1on.' to be cont. next col. the West'Snyder facul- ty is our German teacher, Mr. Frank Sohatko, H9 llVed ln Austria as a boy but attended high school and college in the United States. MP- Schatko is a graduate of Indiana Un versity of Pennsylvania and a U,S. Army veteran. HU now lives in Beaver Springs. School Board At their monthly 'meetings, the Midd- West School Board mem- bers discuss and plan the future educational facilities which will best fulfill the edu- cational needs of our communities. The major issue this year is an educa- tional assessment pro- gram whereby our school programs and buildings are being examined by an outside firm which will evalu- ate our current school problems. Several answers have been proposed for solving the problem of classroom space, One solution is to add more classrooms on to our present buildings. Another solution favors construction of new buildings and re- shuffling of the grades in these build- ings. Such a rear- rangement of grades could be the placement of kindergarten through fourth, fifth through eighth, and ninth through twelfth in separate buildings. Whatever change will evolve, it will affect the futures of all students. The curriculum will prob- ably undergo a change to be cont. next col. as would a change in extra-curricular acti- vities. Under the newly elected President, William Kepner, and Vice-President, George W. Robinson, the Midd- West School Board is engaged in finding the best solution to this puzzling situation. Tradition Lies With Teachers Some people may ask, Njust what makes West Snyder a great school.n The answer 'to this question is very simple, uIt's faculty.u One third of the faculty has been teaching at west Swder for over ten yearsg .and at least two mirds have been teaching for over five years which gives West Snyder's faculty a high rating in teaching experimce. Mix this with the Dash new ideas of the young- er teachers and you've got the makings of a great faculty. One third of West Snyder's faculty have a Masters degree, which is ano- ther reason why teach- ing personnel at West Snyder are second to none. These teachers are the reason for a tradition at

Administration: The Guiding Light ' Dear Seniors: It seems to be a natural phenomenon that the tone for the school climate is normally set by the Senior Class. Good Senior leadership manifests itself throughout a school. As I reminisce about your accomplishments during your stay at West Snyder, I am reminded of numer- ous things you initiated for the first time which were well executed.
