Attend Band And Chorus Five student s rep- resented the musical side of West Snyder in 1973 as they attended the South Central Dis- trict Choral and Dis- trict Band Festivals during the months of January and February. From January lO- 'I1 4-Pnnnn Qnn-1 nna and Deo,n nThe Road Not Taken,n uThe Sounds of the Carpenters,n and HTransmuted.n Several weeks later, Cheryll Freed and Susie Frey, a Senior and a Junior, attended the annual District Band Concert held in Phillipsburg, Pa. with the guest conductor being Nr. Dunlop, the director of the Penn State Blue Band. Susie Frey, who first chair, -.i -. .. . took Monthly Awards Given Two awards are bestowed upon deserv- ing students each month at West Snyder. These are the Student of the Month Award, sponsored by the west Snyder Rotary Club, and the Young American Award, sponsored by the Susquehanna Valley Area Chamber of Com- merce. Students are chosen by the faculty to receive these awards. 1 average citizenship grade is required. Students are selected for this award on the basis of loyalty, in- tegrity, honesty, ischolarship, leader- ship, Americanism, and :participation in school and commun- jfv activities. M ' Students who have 'received the Student 'of the Month Award this year are: Sept- ember, Steve Wrayg October, Cheryl Klineg November, Kim Klineg December, Diane Klineg and January, Wendell Byler. Young Americans lnclude Russ Kauffman for the month of Cc- tober, Adrienne Het- rick for November, Sue one Junior from a Mixed Chorus attended the District Chorus Festival held at Hollidaysburg, Pa. The vocal representatives were Cheryll Freed, Sopranog Adrienne Pete rick, Alta: Dean Rkrl. Tenorg and John Shara- din Bass. The guest conductor was the Director of Choral Mk- ivities at Juniata College in Huntington, Pa., Nr. Bruce Hirsch. The concert, held on Saturday evening, January 13, contained such songs as WJumlate to be cont. next col. and Cheryll Freed played the alto sax. The in- strumental students from the schools per- formed for the public on Saturday, February 3,and they played sev- eral selections includ- ing HTrojan .March,n uCharlie Chaplin Band Portrait,N and nThe Silver Cornets.n The Stuient of the Month is a student who has made an out- standing accomplish- ment during that month. This accomplishment may be in any field and the only require- ment is that the stu- dent must have an av- erage citizenship grade.
