Team Support There is a saying that behind every suc- cessful man there is a successful girl: the same thing can be said about the West Snyder sports teams because they have not just one successful girl behind them, but twenty girla the JV and Varsity cheerleaders. The Varsity cheer leading squad is com- 'prised of ten girls from tenth through twelfth grades. They are chosen by faculty members on the basis of their knowledge of cheers, their pep, their poise, and vari- ous other qualities. The Junior Var- sity cheerleaders con- sist of ten eighth and ninth grade girls. They are also chosen .by faculty members on the same basis as are the Varsity cheer- leaders. In the spring of each year, tryouts for ,the fall JV and Var- sity squads are held. The girls chosen will cheer just for soccer and field hockey. At the conclusion of these sports, tryouts are held again for the winter cheerleading positions, These girls will cheer dur- ing the wrestling and basketball seasons. Besides cheering at all sports events except baseball, Soft- ball, and golf, it is the cheerleaders' responsibility to con- duct pep rallies, make signs, and generate enthusiasm within the .school. A Year Of Success In reviewing the past athletic year the Mountie baseball team complied an overall record of lO wins and 7 loses. The team posted a 9-5 league record which was sec- ond best only to West Perry. Although the Mounties finished in second place, five members of the squad were voted to the all- star teams. Robert Rager, Steve Knepp, Snyder had its own golf team. Although West Snyder functioned as an independent team the Mountie golfers compiled a fine first year record. This first year record shows great promise for the future. The girl's field hockey team posted an O-8-l record but it was only their second year of competition, Tnterest has been shown and an improved squad is expected next year. The Mountie soc- cer team secured a fine l2-2-2 record but failed to capture the Tri-Valley League Title or the District IV Championship. This 1l,,,-v, J . -.... ceived first team honors and Mike Erb and Lynn Dean received second team honors. Since all members of these all-star teams will be return- ing with the exception of Lynn Dean, these players should supply a strong nucleus for this year's team. Last year's girls softball team posted a 6-5 league record and an overall 5-5 record, Although there were five seniors lost to graduation, Bev Bowersox, Barb Gross, Adrienne Hetrick, Kim Kline, Dayna Knepp Kline, Dayna Knepp, and Christine Stuck should provide a strong nucleus for this year's team, A new dimension was added to the sports curriculum last year. For the first time in history, West to be cont. next col. rected next year, To date the girls basketball team has a 7-h record. The girls have entered District IV playoffs and will lay Line Mountain in .1,,a,, -. nn A Tribute To Seniors As' the class of '73 brings it's high school career to a close, the West Snyder sports teams will be losing a lot of talent to graduation. The soccer team will be losing the following players: Glenn Fogel, center-forward: Dennis Seler, inside: Dane Aumiller, halfback: Tim Weller, halfback: Jim Geiswite, goalie: John Snyder inside: Steve Wagner, halfback: Doug Rigel, inside: an Tom Leipold, fullback. The Field Hockey team is losing Beverly Bowersox goalie: Christine Stuck, half- back: Sue Wagner,WUKS and Debbie Zieber, fullback. The Mountie bas- ketballers will be mi- nus six players next year. They are Dan Mattern, forward: Glenn Fogel, guard: Mark Swanson, forward: Keith Landis, guard: Gary Wray, forward: and Alan Wray, guard. Max Lash is leaving the Varsity manager position. The girl's bas- ketball team will lose seniors Barbie Gross, guard: Adrienne Het- rick, forward: Mary Jo Morrison, forward: and Beverly Bowersox, cen- ter. Beverly Kratzer will retire as Varsity manager. The Mountie grap- plers will lose five varsity men. Doug Ri- gel, 105: John Snyder, 119: Gerry Geedey,l38: Steve Wagner, 155: and Tom Leipold, Hwt.
