oyd Eisenhart Elwood Kahley Early season injury mg, ,. Q f Alan Goss 20-1 Pat Lohrg Melvin Fleming 16 2 15-2 Co-captains Alan Goss, 5 , Terry Wilson, Coach Donald Havice. The West Snyder High School Wrestling Team, despite the loss of two returning lettermen because of injuries early in the season, sports an impressive 9-4-1 record for the year. Coach llavice's mounties were sparked by 9 returning lettermen, 4 of which were seniors. The seniors were: Co-captain 120, Alan Gossg 145 Pat Lohtg 154 Lloyd llisenhartg Co-captains, 165 Melvin Fleming. The seniors did very well for themselves and the team this year, sporting a combined record of 61 wins and ll losses for the season, Three of the seniors Pat, Lloyd, and Melvin were out for wrestling four years. Alan began his career as a sophomore. ln the past season tournament held at Shamokin High School gym, Friday February 21, the Havice coached mounties came through with 5 winners in the preliminary bouts. They were: Alan Goss, Gobel Kline, Pat Loht, Mel Fleming, and Joe Heeter. ln the semi-finals on Saturday ROW ONE: Lon Goss, Donald Clark, Bill Folk, Alan Goss, Gobel Kline, Richard Lepely, Keith McGlaugh1in. ROW TWO: Robert Goss, Pat Loht, Lloyd Eisenhart, Melvin Fleming, Andy Ward, Joe Heeter, John C. Klingler, Bill Leipold. ROW THREE: Steve Seler, Bobby Leipold, Steve Dippery, John Himes, Elwood Kahley, Allen Kline, Ted Kline, Johr Klinger, Steve Ammerman. ROW FOUR: Phillip Miller, David Goodwin, Richard Hughes, WRESTLING TEAM afternoon, three of the five boys won a birth to the finals in the evening. They were Alan, Gobel, and Pat. ln the final bout, Alan defeated Lance Xlanley of Selinsgrove 6-33 Gobel defeated Richard Weller of Shamokin 3-0, and Pat lost his match to Ed Benfer of Selinsgrove 7-2. Alan and Gobel, were winners of the southern sectional of District 4 making it two years in a row that we placed wrestlers in district competition. Alan and Gobel were both victorious in District 4 defeating two very fine wrestlers. At the time this book went to press they have been advanced to regionals where they will meet with boys from southeastern Pennsylvania. One of the most popular boys in West Snyder High School's history is Al Goss. Ile became our first State Champion by winning the 120 pound crown. We the class of 64 are proud to have him as one of our loyal members. SOFTBALL TEAM During the 1962-'63 softball season, despite a very young team, the girls emerged co-champions of their league. They compiled a league record of 6-2 and an overall KNEELING: Peggy Aumiller, Sharon Narehood, Ruth Try, April Baker, Teree Benner, Joy Gross, Linda Weader, Nancy Saylor, Margie Zechman, Yvonne Hughes, Judy Haines. STANDING: Dixie Spaid, Kathe Erb, Virginia record of 8-2. Under the coaching of Mrs. Manbeck, the girls showed excellent team spirit and sportsmanship.
