Some of these memories are still vivid and colorful. Many, how- ever, have been clouded with time and are now merely hazy silhouettes nearly forgotten. We of the Legend staff have tried to revive these memories and record them in one book, so that as you glance at the following pages, you will once again re- member all the excitements, thrills, and disappointments of the past school years. Now the years with their hundreds of memories are gone and your Legend carries the only written record of this period, We hope you will keep and always treasure this book of memories for 1964, :xt .1 S R 1251 .I N. 4 Foreword l X . l 1 l 04 .ff f X xg m Sherman E, Good Dear Seniors: I am writing this message on the afternoon QNovember 22, 19635 which witnessed the assas- sination of John F, Kennedy, President of the United States. It seems that we live in an age characterized by hatred, racial prejudice, crime, immorality, and the baser aspects of life. I would that we as a society could move again to a plane where justice, equity and hu- mility before God would be the measure of our conduct. Human dignity and service to our fel- lowmen should be the watchwords of our day. l trust that West Snyder has guided you in that direction and that your life will be a fulfil- ment of that trust. Very SlllCSIG Sherman E. Good Supervising Principal Norman li. Kline Dear Seniors: lt is my sincere hope that a portion of the philosophy of the man to whom you are dedicat- ing your Legend was caught by each of the mem- bers of your class. Undoubtedly, you heard him reiterate the portion to which I am referring. lt went some- thing like this: Life is not measured by its length, but rather by its intensity. This statement acquires more significance, as you apply it to his life and to the life of a National figure, who met an untimely death dur- ing your senior year in school, namely, the President of the United States. May each of you exemplify an intensity in your lives Which will become contagious. I challenge you, especially, to seek amoral intensity which W i ll someday r e s u l t in the Master's saying, Well done, thou good and faithful servant. This, l believe, is the key to the abundant life. Norman E. Kline Principal Rev. Merrill Peters ln those days, l heard a voice from heaven saying, Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord henceforth. Yes, says the Spirit, let them rest from their labors, for their Works follow them. And every excellent Work shall be justified: and the Worker thereof shall be honoured therein, Blessed is the man that shall continue in wisdom, and that shall meditate in his justice, and in his mind shall think of the all seeing eye of God. Dedication We, the Senior Class of West Snyder High School, Wish to dedicate this yearbook to the memory of The Reverend Merrill Peters, who gave unselfishly of his time and talents .... and life. We shall revere this virtuous man as a loyal friend and diligent teacher. Our memories will always be ones of a man greatly admired for his noble ideals, traditionally high standards, and uniquely firm convictions. Above all he will always remain loved and cherished as a friend of great wisdom. With this sincere petition for Supreme Grace and compassion, we lovingly dedicate our Legend in the memory of The Reverend Merrill Peters. Rev. Our thoughts will also always be with the leaders and ad- visors who guided us through our school years. As the year 1963-'64 opened the Sen- iors sponsored a Back to School dance, which proved to be very successful. They operated an eating stand at the Beaver Fair in September, The homemade ice cream which they served proved to be a great success. In October the Seniors took their one- day class trip to Washington, D.C. Many enjoyable sights were seen during that memorable day. On November 15 and 16 the Seniors presented their Senior Class Playentitled The Fakersf' The response to this play was excellent. As the year progressed, the Seniors participated in many other activities. Their school days ended on June 3, at graduation exercises which were held in the high school auditorium. Also, at this time the class rings were ordered. In November the Junior Class had a group from Susquehanna University give a Hootenanny for the purpose of raising money for a class trip. This was quite successful. The annual Junior Class Play and Junior-Senior Prom were presented by the class in the spring of the year. All who attended District Band with the exception of one were Juniors. Two from the class of 1965 attended District Chorus. In the area of sports the Junior Class has been well represented. This year eleven girls were on the Girls' Basketball Team. Boys' Varsity Basketball team in- cluded six juniors of which one wasaman- ager. There were nine members and two managers on the wrestling squad, Twelve juniors were on the soccer team including two managers.
