GIRLS' ENSEMBLE Leftto right: Nancy Mattern, Marjorie Herbster, Kay Wagner, Martha Thomas, Janice Auman, Mollie Young, Carole Ritter, Kathleen Dean, Dolores Zieber, Pat Fry, Joy Knepp, Janet Higgins, Jane Spaide. The Girls' Ensemble was organized in the fall of 1958 and is composed of all Senior girls. The ensemble has been engaged by various organizations of the area communities. They have sung in different churches of the communities and for the Mason Banquet held in the Beaver-Adams elemen- tary building. InDecember,when WestSnyder had its annual Christmas Festival, the group sang White Christmas with a fireside background and then sang The Little Jesue Came to Town . The girls participated in the music forensics and in the annual Spring Festival. They wear red corduroy jumpers, andwhite long-sleeved blouses are worn with the jumpers depend- ing upon the occasion. This organization practices very hard for its engagements. 96

Row Four: William Buffington, Richard Mattern, Terry Kramer, Melvin Fleming, Neil Knepp, Gerald Wagner. JUNIOR HIGH BAND This musical unit is composed of seventh, eighth and ninth grade boys and girls who show an aptitude for and interest in instrumental music. It is in this group that the young instrumentalist learns basic musicianship as well as genuine team- work. Specific prerequisites must be met by those desiring to participate with this organization. 95

Row Five: Patricia Fry, Melvina Furgison, Delores Aumiller, Madeline Snook, Judy Lose, Margaret Weader, Jane Spaide, Marian Seebold, Phyllis Goss, Gloria Pheasant, Sylvania Benfer. Susie Kuhns, Anna Marie Bilger. Members of the Girls' Chorus are selected from grades ten, eleven and twelve. The Girls' Chorus permits the student to progress from two part and unison singing to three part vocal music. Girls showing a greater interest are afforded an opportunity to become members of the Girls' En - semble, which performs music that is beyond the scope of the average chorus member. This year the Girls' Chorus, under the direction of Mr. Clark G. Nevin, participated in the annual Christmas Choral Festival and Spring Concert. 97
