Both young ladies have chosen to attend Trenton State College to pursue a major in engineering and pre-med respectively. The award covers $1000 tuition each year for the entire four years. After working at several other schools in the district, including Arts High, she came to West Side in 1948 as a teacher in the Business Department. She became a part-time counselor in 1963. a full-time counselor in 1968. and head guidance counselor in 1974 Thank you for your dedication. your diligence, your perserverance. and patience. I believe anyone whom you encourage and help to think and rethink in today's crisis will find his thought leading him back to things that are basic in American ife—freedom, sanctity of the home, thrift, work, each man and each woman making his small contribution to the whole by trying what we used to call right living. Let us make the point that other generations of Americans have had their crisis, too—their bloody wars, ther long-lasting and soul-searching depressions, their riots, and even their threats of imminent extraction— and yet America has indeed made remarkable progress, largely by adhering to principles which may seem old-fashioned. To sum up. the resolution of today's crisis in American life must begin with each individual The relationshp which you and I have with members of our immediate famiies is the beginning of a chain reaction Within our family groups, we must teach and learn understanding, reasonableness. justice, love, fidelity, patriotism, love of God—for then and only then wil we achieve the love of our feilowman which. It was a three on two in West Side's fdvor with ten seconds left in the fourth quarter Clifton had a chance to make his team lead by one. but he took a turn-around-jumper which lost it all for West Side On February 19th, the rematch was on—. Again it was a tight game—from the beginning and throughout the last quarter West Side was down by ten points, but Ternque Goodman and Jesse Parker got West Side back into the game with a couple of key plays. Goodman, who leads West Side in scoring, brought us holf-way bock with two-three pointers. Parker, who leads West Side in rebounding and steals, took West Side to a victory (62-61). Although many of the games were close, the team couldn't seem to put together a winning streak. A large part of the problem was that the team was very inexperienced, as the coaching staff chose to work with underclassmen and build for the 1988-1989 season. Several seniors played key roles on the team. Three who should receive special praise for their efforts are: Al-Malik Jenkins. Philip Sal Harris and Donald Calhoun. These three men played hard all year and displayed great character during a very difficult season. Hopefully, their example will help the younger players to get the program back on track. Donald Armour is a fourth senior member of the team. He was one of the scoring leaders of the squad and has the physical ability to play college basketball. A RETURN TO EXCELLENCE. The young and inexperienced team handled a full mashotic schedule, which included powerhouses Roselle Park. Jamesburg. and Seton Hal. Of the 13 weight classes on a team line-up, the ROUGH-RIDERS filled m 8 or 9 of those weights and wrestled (forfeiting on an average 24 pts.). In spite of this, the team finished 10 wins and 7 tosses. Its share of the city championship was a fifth place finish at the Jamesburg Tournament. The team wrestled well in the district 10 of the State tournament. The ROUGHRIDERS were led by two seniors who were part of the original team before it was cancelled three years ago.
