Through all the days of coming years— In times when glowing futures call— In hearts with laughter and with tears Our love for you will never die. Oh. Alma Mater. West Side High. Our love for you will never die. Oh. Alma Mater. West Side High! The story of West Side High School is filled with great expectations to become the best we can be. We wonder with excitement what the future holds for us. and we are impatient to reach for it. We will reach for and take as much as we can and mold it to our satisfaction. Another year has come and gone. Another class is graduating, but this time it holds a special meaning for us because it is our class that is graduating. We re going in new directions, many directions, all directions. As long as we have the courage to face another day. then we can face the future. We are leaving West Side High and nothing can stop us because the Sky's The Limit! Doing Things The Usual Way Talking Too much home work Chewing gum in class Inoperative water fountains Day dreaming Not taking gym No lockers Wearing hats in school Wearing coats in class 4 A Limited Edition There were several memorable occasions that transpired during our senior year. The Passing of the Lamp from the out-going class to the incoming one has been a tradition at West Side for many years, and each senior awaits the Day with anxiety and anticipation. Also, on the same day. awards are bestowed to many deserving recipients. Spirit Week , in which we relived the 50's”, dressed-up in our punk rock, dressed as youngsters, and topped it off in our fashions of today, was fun as well as educational. The culmination of our unforgettable events was the crowning of Miss West Side High 1984-85. Do you remember when you cried because your mother left you in a strange class on the first day of kindergarden? Well, kin-dergarden came and left and we then moved toward higher ground. The first, second, third, and fourth grades came, and along with the years came bell bottoms, stripes and plaids. During those years. Santa. the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy were the most important things in our lives. As we journeyed on, we encountered a more sophisticated life (we thought). We began to grow-up. and we thought about boy friends and girl friends. We also had blood brothers and sisters. Every new person we met. we would get married and have two children. We would put this information in our diaries which we guarded with our lives — from our Moms. Dads, brothers and sisters. Weren’t we pretty silly in those days? We have all grown so much and changed so much, but we have one thing in common- - -We are ready to GO FOR THE GOLD! Our advisor Mrs. Tyson was wondering is she should call off our skating party and reschedule it for another night. We asked her not to do so for we felt that the weather would not cause the buses to cease operation. Around 7:30 p.m. the rain had slackened and many of us proceeded to Twin City Roller Rink as scheduled. Boy. were we happy that Mrs. Tyson did not call off our party. We had a joyous time skating in pairs, individually, by the latest disco sounds, and by class. Most of the members of the Class of 85 wore their T-shirts and were identified readily whenever it was necessary. The J.V. team is led by point guard Ralph Curtis and Grover Young who average 12.6 pts. per game, along with the help of Marc Troy, a freshman, who has been rebound at a 9.5 clip a game. With our lack of height we made up for it with speed. We should have a respectable season (.500) when it’s all finished. The team's enthusiasm for the game and the fine coaching that they will receive on varsity from Mr. Blue (a former all-star from East Side H. Charles Little. James Coleman, and freshman Scott Trimmer were off to a slow start this season. The Rough Riders had a very inexperienced team this season m spite of the fact that the team had seven seniors. Only one of the seniors is a season veteran from last season. Ptaying the first six games on the road, the inexperienced Rough Riders lost them all. It wasn't until the second home game that the Rough Riders put together their first victory. The team then proceeded to wm six out of their next seven games. The team's turnaround was due in part to the experience that was gained in those first seven losses. The improved playing received from David Cooper and Otis Halsey was a major part in the team's turn about. Cooper has been averaging 15 points. 10 rebounds per game and Halsey has averaged 11 points and 13 rebounds per game. Combined this with the leadership the team has been receiving from Ray Miller and Ronnie McGee, plus the pivot play of Eric Ebron, the defensive play of Terrance Dent, and the offensive play of Tony Brooks the Rough Riders should do well in their remaining games Coach Blue is coaching from the sideline 157 Senior Stars Shake And Bake 160 Keith Gant.
