At that time whenever a senior passed by, we would nudge each other and stare, never daring to look the “almighty senior straight in the eye. That year was the In-ginning of our high school career . . . the days that followed will always he among our dearest memories. Our sophomore year gave us varied views of life at West Side High School. Dissecting frogs and fish-heads in Biology . . . seniors pouncing upon us to buy boosters, elevator passes, senior show tickets, detained slips . . . College Preps struggling through Geometry . . . Secretariats through Stenography. How can we forget Kiss Me Smedley,” the first school play and “Leap Year Hop” the first school dance. January 1957 . . . juniors, upperclassmen . . . now we look down upon the sophomores as our elders before us had done. West Side vs. East Orange . . . how happy we were when in the rain the final winning touchdown was made by the West Side football team ... a bitter rivalry won by our school. January 1958 . . . seniors . . . we were finally on top of the world. Gazing into the eyes of new sophomores we could see the same gleam of admiration and awe that we once had. Hold your nose . . . hydrogen sulfide gas has escaped from the Chemistry lab . . . evacuate the third floor. One floor down one could see Mrs. JafFc trying in vain to teach Advanced Transcription to the unenthusiastic future secretaries of the world . . . June 13 . . . Sayonara, a Japanese farewell to the outgoing Seniors and our first senior reception . . . music by the Savoys. The weather was warm . . . but we had a cool time. September 1958 . . . now it was our turn to sell boosters, and senior show tickets ... not as easy as we thought. Naturally with this step we secured the best seats” in the auditorium.
