V T The Class of June 1956 presents . . . THE LAMP West Side High School Newark, New Jersey education Throughout our lives, the joy of momentous occasions is increased by sharing them with those who are close to us. We, the Graduating Class of June 1956, would like to share the pleasure of our graduation symbol, the Yearbook, with you who are dear to us. This book has been molded by our days at West Side, just as your devotion and understanding have shaped our lives and personalities. To our beloved parents, we dedicate The Lamp of June 1956. to Our Parents Francis B. Snavelq PRINCIPAL We feel a great urge to express our pride in West Side High School and hence in you. We have watched you grow in knowledge and urbanity for three years, and we are pleased with what we see. During the whole time you have been at West Side our school has led the city in attendance. During this time, we won the County Basketball Tournament. State Cross Country championships. 4 Edgar K. Dawson VICE PRINCIPAL and track titles. Our twirlers. cheerleaders, band and orchestra have been the most outstanding in the city. We are not unaware of our shortcomings, but on this day we will remember our achievements. Let us remember that no achievement is worthwhile unless it inspires us to further and greater goals and. to quote Charles Dickens. God bless you everyone. 5 Evelqn Stevens We, the Class of June 1956, should like to take this opportunity to thank you, our Senior Class Advisers, for the encouragement and support you have given us in helping to make our graduation a successful one. 6 Class Advisers Irving S. Rosenberg We are also grateful to you for the patience and sympathetic understanding you have shown us. It is our hope that the past year has been one filled with many pleasures for both of you, and that the time you have spent with the Class of June 1956 will never fade from your memories. 7 Class Counselor Herman Kapner The culmination of our high school career is drawing near. As we review all the things which helped shape this occasion, our eyes fall upon you, our Counselor. Mr. Kapner. With fingers crossed, you were drafted to undertake a very laborious task which began approximately three years prior to this date and shall end as we leave the halls of West Side to our successors. We are all very grateful, for it was your inspiration, your kindness and your care which helped us through this school of scholars. If we were to list each of our thoughts separately we would possibly have a yearbook titled In Appreciation of Your Dedicated Work. Since this is impossible, we leave you with the thought that our memory shall always hold dear one person who guided us onward through three very joyous and memorable high school years. 8 English Social Studies Business Education Office Staff Special Subjects Guidance Language Yearbook Taping Committee Elvira Ann Abruzxcsc Mickey” Laughing and talking all day. To Mrs. Liberson. we leave a robot to read the daily notices for her. To Mrs. Norton, we leave a year's subscription to Con- -= fidential and a crossword puzzle that fights back. 7 To Mrs. Stevens, we leave a huge supply of Christmas trees • to remind her of us. To Mr. Prag, we leave a pair of skates to get him around the halls faster during air raid drills. To Mr. Boyar, we leave a nice, loud alarm clock to get him to school on time. To Mr. Martland. we leave the halls of West Side and 99 years of detention. To Mr. Kriegsfeld, we leave a record of Why Don't You Believe Me in German. To.Mr. Villani, we leave the adoration of all female underclass-men. To Mr. Donner. we leave a class full of aristocrats so that he will not be disturbed by the common people. To all students, we leave coffee to keep them awake during assemblies: lemonade in the fountains: escalators to the third floor; fire drills during tests; and to all-girl classes, we leave some boys.
