Francis B. Snavelij PRINCIPAL When a student enters the massive Rate leadinR to the Yard of Harvard University, he reads on the archway of the gate the words: “ENTER TO GROW IN WISDOM . When lie leaves the Yard, on the reverse side of the archway of the gate these words meet his eyes: “DEPART TO BETTER SERVE THY COUNTRY AND THY KIND”. Our official records at West Side show that many members of the Class of January 1954 have grown in wisdom as indicated by academic achievement. But school grades arc not alone a measure of achievement. Many of you have excelled in extra-curricular activities which contribute to the wisdom of community living. As you leave the portals of West Side, we know that you will serve loyally your country, as have those West Siders who have gone before you. It is our hope and belief that in the more personal sphere of our community life you will contribute to the happiness and the welfare of your neighbors and fellow citizens. 4
