VARSITY FOOTBALL The 1957 season of varsity football turned out to be a season of hard luck and bad breaks. Having lost Coach Groover to the service of the United States and many of the gridiron champs from last year's team, our boys faced a year of uncertainty. Norman Friend took over the task of training the team and did a good job. One of our worst breaks came when a potential star, Dan Trayer, was injured while playing and was unable to complete the season. Although the season ended with nine losses, the Troians boomeranged and won the traditional Thanksgiving Day game. We wish to thank the Troians for their efforts put forth in each game. GOVERNOR MIFFLIN-Sl W. S.-O Due to inexperience and first game iitters our Trojans went down to defeat by the overwhelming score of 31-O. Scoring 25 points in the first half, the Mustangs had no trouble in holding West Shore scoreless through the four periods. HUMMELSTOWN-19 W. S.-7 Journeying to Hummelstown on a cold Friday night, the Troians went down to their second defeat by a score of T9-7. Leo Davis scored West Shore's lone touchdown on a T3-yard run and Dan Trayer ran the ball across for the extra point. SHIPPENSBURG-l 2 W. S.-7 In their initial home game of the season our Troians fell prey to the Shippensburg Greyhounds by the score of T2-7. Dan Trayer scored the only West Shore touch- down early in the first quarter. The Tro- ians held a 7-6 lead until the last 2 min- utes of the game, when the Greyhounds pushed over to score the winning touch- down. SUEQUENITA-21 W. S.-6 On October l2th, traveling to Susquen- tia, the West Shore eleven continues their three-game losing streak by dropping the contest to the Blackhawks 21-6. Leo Davis scored West Shore's lone touchdown early in the first quarter. Susquenita scored in the second, third, and fourth quarters to wrap up an easy victory. CUMBERLAND VALLEY-60 W. S.-7 ln their last night contest for the season the Troians iourneyed to Cumberland Valley where they were soundly defeated by a score of 60-7. The Eagles found the Troians no trouble in handing them their fifth loss. West Shore's only touchdown was scored by Tom Bowman on a plunge.
