Cross Country EZ' HE school is reluctant to see co-captain Dick Kingsbury and Wayne Bettcher and other seniors Max Peterson, Ray Ernst, John Stefano and Carl Borchert leave, for they have worked hard with Coach C. D'Amato. This year's cross-country team's perseverance and cooperation give every indication that next season will be a better one for cross- country. We are proud not only of the prowess of our teams but of the splendid spirit of sportsmanship displayed at all times . The many areas covered on our program is clearly demonstrated by the pictures that follow. The success of our teams speaks for itself. We wish to take this opportunity to congratulate sincerely the partici- pants in our program, not only for their successful competition but also for the outstanding manner in which they have competed. Our sincere thanks go to the student body as a whole for the faithful support of our program and our recognition of their many displays of true sportsmanship . Koeler, Mr. Robinson N September 26, 1953, a St01'1Tl of applause from enthusiastic spectators greeted the West Seneca Indians as, clad in brilliant blue and gold, the team made its ini- tial appearance on the gridiron. Louder still were the cheers of the crowds as West Seneca emerged victorious, defeating Orchard Park 14 to 12. ln this and subsequent games, the team, under the able coaching of Mr. B. Hawkes and physical education director, Mr. G. Robinson, the Indians displayed the traditional West Seneca do or die spirit. We at West Seneca do not measure our success only in scores. We admired the lively enthusiasm and sportsmanship of our players, captained by Ray Davies and Jack Spencer. Although we won but two of our games, already we are optimistically looking forward to next year's team with high hopes and confidence in the present sophomore and juniors on the Varsity Team. We are sorry to see go, such boys Qwho played their last gamej as: R. Swan, D. Duebel, R. Davies, R. Flett, J. Spencer, J. Phalen, C. Przyna, E. Murray. We wish them great success in their future ventures. 80
