Szezepanski, R. Harpster, A. Nerber, D. Wesling, L. Galley The West Seneca Student Council began its second year under the direction of Mr. Thomas Daley. Each of the members was chosen by the student body to perform the necessary obligations of the club. After election, the members were invited to Clarence Central School to became acquainted with the duties of the organization. They gained many new ideas from the council members of other schools. The maior proiect of the group was the selling of candy at every home basketball game. Refreshments were also sold at a dance which was sponsored by the Youth Organi- zation of West Seneca. However, the highlight of the year was the April Amateur show. A trophy was presented to the winner and her name was inscribed on a large cup which was placed in the trophy case. During the school year a movie was shown for the entertainment af the student body. ln addition, the council has provided the required fee for yearbook pictures for non-profit organizations. Although it is very difficult to move ahead, the Student Council feels that this year it has made some progress which will benefit both the council and the students of next year. aunc il S. Plisk, R. THE NEWSPAPER CLUB Our school newspaper, the Nan-do-wah-gaah, is made possible by the combined efforts of a staff of students and our two advisors. This organization not only provides a useful service to our school but also gives its members practical experience in the line of iournalism and newspaper production. Little do our readers realize the time and effort that goes into the making of a newspaper. There are approximately six divisions to this club: the co-editors, advisors, reporters, typrsts, production, and art committees. All have succeeded in doing their utmost to carry out their assinnments. We should like to congratulate our two editors, Casey Prezyna, and Eleanor Turton, for conscientiously carrying out the task which, perhaps, holds the most responsibility - super- vising all phases of the growth of the newspaper. We would especially like to thank our two advisors, Mr. Ryan and Miss Trautenberg, for cooperating and helping us to create an air of efficiency for our club. librilr lub lst Row - D. Gill, G. The West Seneca Junior Rifle Club was organized and officiall chartered as an affil- liated member of the tiationul Rifle Associa- tion Washington, D. C., on January l0, l953. The club was formed due to the growing inter- est in rifle shooting as a sport in this area. This year the club arranged to use the Cleveland Hill rifle range for all of its firing activity, but the school is constructing a new rifle range in the basement. It is expected this range will be available next year. With these increased facilities the club will be open for membership of bo s and girls in both theJunior and Senior Hi hgchools. Mr. Wesley R. Scott is the Faculty iponsor. Members of the National Junior Honor So- ciety have decorated bulletin boards in the iunior high wing ofthe school, acted as guides for the parents night tour and the sixth grad- ers' open house, sponsored a dinner party and informal initiation for the pledges, and pre- sented an assembly program for the junior high. Under the capable direction of Mr. Alfred Castle, the cast was able to present an outstanding performance. Those who had the leading rolls were Ray Davies, Judy Mamula, Rosemary Manzellu, Bill Glinski, Beverly Michel, Don Mascia, and Don Lillo. With only five weeks of preparation, many long and tedious rehearsals were necessary. There was hard work and little play. Excellent cooperation was given by advertising, scenery, and props committees. Mr. Fahey managed the dependable and efficient stage crew. The cast of the operetta was rewarded with tremendous applause and a continual call for encores. Mr. Castle was speechless when Don Lillo presented him with a Bulova wrist watch on behalf of the cast, orchestra, and stage crew. He did an outstanding iob not only with the musical but with the dramatic part of the show. Others who helped with the presen- tation were: Mr. Van Dette, Mr. Zarba, Mr. Picerno, Mr. Peck and Mrs. Castle. Because one presentation did not satisfy the demands of the students and community, next year the operetta will run for two nights. We will long remember the rollicking melodies and rhythms of H. M. S. Pinafore! J. Mingle, J. Henniger, D. Lillo, H. Far rall, J. Backer, D. Priebe, J. Baker, F. Stevens, A. Schroeder, J. Yea, R. Miller, J. Bowes, R. Barrnett, G. Heusinger, C. Amigone, R. The Boys' Chorus this year became one of the most popular activities. By constantly striving to improve their choral ability, the members have furnished pleasing entertainment for all at the assemblies and in numerous other activities under the direction of Mr. Gordon Peck. A Sunday Concert was given, and the chorus was greatly acknowledged by the hundreds who witnessed it. The music department presented the operetta H. M. S. Pinafore, the first of its kind to be enacted at our school, and the chorus gave a highly laudable performance. ln addition, a number of the boys participated in the All State Concert presented this year in the Lancaster School Auditorium and in the annual Erie County Concert held at Kleinhan's Music Hall. As this organization grows in experience, its renditions will become more polished and melodic. Both the members and their audience will enioy the beautiful harmonies of song. wirlers il Many times a group of students will work hard to help the spirit of school ac- tivities and will very seldom get any or little credit. Our team became champion of Northern Erie County, then it beat LaSalle for the Erie-Niagara Championship. The group then played in Offerman Stadium, here it became Section 6 Champions of Western New York. Coach Viggato declared that this was one of the best teams he will ever coach in high school. The team took three tournament honors. It took first in its own league, first in the Jewish Center Tournament, first in the Erie County Conference and second in Section VI. Although the team will lose team captain Richard Barry, who went through the regular season undefeated they will have a strong team next year. Ken Meissner, won third place in the National AAU Greecian-Roman style wrestling and fifth in the free style class. BOWLING TEAM The boys picked to play in the varsity games this year were chosen from the highest scorers that bowled at Gallerys on Monday evenings. This arrangement gave all who participated a chance to bowl against other schools. Coach Robinson and his team did a good iob this year, they won five of the eight games played. Those who bowled in a maiority of the games automatically received varsity letters, as did those members who had contributed greatly to the success of the team in other ways throughout the year. Under the direction of Mrs. Sloan, the girls worked hard on the old cheers and composed many new ones. Marlene Seedorf was the captain, and during games the cheerleaders aroused high and sportsmanlike spirit among the spectators.
