The baseball team, under Coach Ryan, climaxed a very successful season by sweeping their inter-divisional playoff series with Eden and thereby winning the Southern Erie County League all-round and Class A Championships. The boys compiled an enviable record of ten straight victories at one time during the season. In a tense and thrill-packed struggle at Chestnut Ridge Park, West Seneca was defeated 8-6 by Hamburg High, Northern Erie County titlists for the county championship and the right to enter the sectional playoffs. Everett CBudD Murray who had one of the top high school pitching records in Western New York, suffered his first loss of the season in this game after having tvrirled nine consecutive wins. Looxruo THEM oven Fon 1950 Remember: Jerry Springer's distance clout at Green Lake tying the score l-l and giving West Seneca a chance to win in extra innings, Joe M'umm's towering drive over the local fence at Ebenezer, Dave Pearce's long homer in the playoff game at Chestnut Ridge, Bud Murray's two game shutout of Eden, league winners , Jack Zimmermams clutch hitting, especially of doubles, - that day in assembly when the championship trophy was presented to Captain-elect Murray with the entire team proudly looking on, --- the heartbreak in the playoff game with Hamburg in which the bases were loaded twice in the last two innings only to remain that way, and last but not least, that rare gem of baseball, that sensational triple play, the only one in the league's history, in which Jack Zimmerman and Dave Pearce combined to retire Sloan without a run after they had filled the bases with no outs. q-- Sf--i

Up from the Junior Varsity however, came much needed help in the fonn of Dave Pearce, Don Priore, Hank Piegza, Wally Simpson and Dick Hotterman, Mr. Robinson and nr. Abrams combined their time, efforts and basketball knowledge in coaching both the J. V. and Varsity basketball teams for the 1950-El season. Dave Pearce emassed l37 points to emerge as top scorer for the entire season--and his 2l points against Angola were high for any one game. The second Gowanda game was a thriller which was finally won by West Seneca in the closing seconds 35'3h. The services of Ed Doerfel, playing his first year of Varsity ball, were lost late in the season as he exchanged uniforms--basketball for military. Orchard Park's invading league champions were pressed to the limit before eking out a last quarter victory. Bud Knuth, in his P. G. year, earned his varsity W to become a major letter winner in three sports--football, basketball, and baseball. The loss to Sloan, traditional rivals, on our homecourt was a heartbreaker. Our quintet held a commanding lead in the early stages of the game only to see it ebb away. Speaking of rebounds, Glinski, Simpson, and Yea should do their share of controlling backboards next year. The outlook for the 1951-S2 season is indeed bright with the prospective return of stellar sophomore's Bill Glinski and Joe Yea, along with such proven performers as Pearce, Priore and Simpson. These five lettermen should be ably supported by those graduating from the J. V. ranks, perhaps even pressed to retain their varsity recognition. ' E--52-P'
