To think of the years one has known Mr. Kaye in the West Seattle community as a neigh- bor, friend, or casual acquaintance is to remem- ber a kind, gentle, tactful and happy man. The last meeting of the High School P.-T.A. that Mr. Kaye attended before he became ill, I remem- ber his kind words of praise and encouragement he gave regarding the work-we were doing in the school and the community. To have been able to call Mr. Kaye neighbor or friend was a rare privilege. Sincerely, Mrs. Roger Dahl, President of P.-T.A. Humbly, we now see that day after day, year after year, we have shared the life of a great man. As leader, counsellor, fellow-worker and friend, Lyle Kaye quietly and effectively did so well the many things that came his way, that we scarcely noticed the doing. Now, re- membering, we see him clearly-a human being who shared laughter generously, who lived actively and read avidly with equal vitality, a man called upon to suffer deeply and long whose pity nevertheless was for others, not himself, a keen observer of men, incapable of speaking harshly of another. Now that he no longer walks with us, we know that we have been greatly privileged, and a little better, because he was our friend. Strangely, we feel more strengthened'by his presence than saddened at his absence, and are grateful for having known him. Irene Murray Lansing. To the students of West Seattle High School, Lyle Kaye was a sincere, understanding teacher. He constantly encouraged scholarship and practical thinking, and urged his students to take full advantage of educational opportunities. He strove to give his classes a better un- derstanding of the world they live in. The students of West Seattle will always be indebted to Mr. Kaye for his endless efforts to help them toward successful living. Tim Hill. This is not the first annual that has been dedicated to Mr. Kaye. For many years, his service to West Seattle-school and community alike-has been realized by alumni and friends with whom he worked. Everyone who came in contact with him was impressed by his kindly atti- tude and interest in the well-being of others. Mr. Kaye has become a symbol at West Seattle of that which is held in highest esteem. Our feeling, and the thoughts of the many whom he knew, echo the dedication of the Class of T931-he was beloved by the diligent, feared by the delin- quent, and sincerely respected by all. Bev. Beers. T7
