Two half- Fmf T no 1 time shows, at Homecoming and Dad's Night, climaxed the Fall activity. For J f B e the second year, the Stage Band com- peted for honors at Eau Claire with more than twenty bands. Plans for the year included a Holiday Arts Festival Concert and a Winter Concert, as well as appearances by the Concert Choir on T.V. and at the Mulder Nursing Home. The band and Choral groups concluded a productive year with performances at the solo and ensemble, and concert contests. Track-3rd at State Coach Terry Martin and assistant Coaches Ron Kolterman and Jim Kamerzelt instilled the spirit needed to propel the West Salem Track Team to win many honors. The deter- mined Panthers won West Salem's first conference champi- onship in track and thus set a new conference record in the mile relay. Jim Ming, Jerry Ming, Dennis Wee, and Dave Hanson ran the four lap jaunt in 3136.9 eclipsing the previ- ous mark of 3:38.5. The Panthers went on to take first place honors at the regional meet as well as sectionals.
