The Archery Club of West Salem High School is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year. This club was organized for two purposes. The main reason is to instruct the students in both the basic and fine points of archery. The second, is to promote interest in the sport of archery. Besides entering and winning many tournaments, the members apply their archery skill in the field, also. Many of the members have been successful in killing small game animals as well as deer. The Club has as its adviser Mr. Clinton Wruck. 26

Sanders, is a nineteen member organization dedicated to the service of students and faculty. Regular student librarians assist in processing books, charging and shelving books, making attractive bulletin boards, as well as numerous other duties under the direction of student head librarians. Virginia Nuttleman was head librarian during the 1959-1960 school year. Students are admitted to the club in their sophomore year following completion of an apprentice-librarian course. Highlighting the year’s activities, 1959-1960, was a book bazaar, November 16-21, andtheappearanceof the well-known author of “An Otter’s Story” and “A Beaver’s Story,” Emil Liers of Homer, Minnesota. Swetidic QJiiiB A very active and worthwhile club is Forensics. Its main purpose is to train the students to speak with more poise and self-confidence. The officers of the Forensic Club a re President, Mary Lou Anderson; Vice-President, Phyllis Bahr; Secretary, Karla Hemker; and Treasurer, Karen Hemker. The speaking contests are held in the spring of the year. Students may participate in humorous and non-humorous declamations, original oratory, extemporaneous reading and speaking, four minute speaking, and interpretive reading. Students may compete in the Voice of Democracy and the Constitution Contests. Throughout the year the club helps to sponsor such activities as Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day programs. The advisers of the club are Mr. W. Pruess, Mr. E. Kindschy. and Mr. W. Taylor. DISCUSSING CONTEST DATES: T. Moran, G. Rhodes, C. Goldsmith, K. Miller, M. Martin.
