The students of West Salem High School are very fortunate in having an organization that deals with self-government and democracy within the student body. This group of thirteen students works with the school board, the faculty, and their advisers to help make and carry out school policy. Although school government is their main function. council members promote and participate in such helpful projects as “Teens Against Polio,” “Care” and the sale of saving stamps.

PRESIDENT AND TEACHER AID Joan Davis and her class Future Teachers of America is an organization for students who are interested in teaching as their chosen profession. Members get occupational guidance and experience by serving as teacher aids in the ele-rtlentary grades. During the year the club sponsors a varied program of speakers representing different phases of teaching, films enabling members to explore the profession, and social activities providing enjoyment for all. Theorganization gives special recognition to local teachers during Teacher Career Month.
