'Turn Back The Hands Of Time” Motto: Time Is The Tempo Of Our March To Success Colors: Maroon and Gold Flower: Yellow Rose The fall of 1951 found forty-eight eager freshmen ready to start their high school careers. Initiation passed I Basketball and baseball claimed eight of our boys. Library, Drama, ORIOLE, Forensics, Band, FHA, FFA, Euridice, and Pep Club attracted many members of the class. Arleen Schmidt represented us on the Homecoming Court. The handsof time turned rapidly and the class of 1955 found themselves sophomores bent on initiating the freshmen. Once again the class was active in many organizations. Our sports representatives were many with Pat Moran, Bruce Furchtenicht, Richard Caulum, Donald Perso, John Hancock, Paul Ranum, and Robert Schmidt representing us in baseball. Basketball players were Bruce Furchtenicht, Paul Ranum, Richard Caulum, Pat Moran, Lester Olson, and Donald Perso. Homecoming found Helen Betthauser our representative on the court. Time passed quickly and we were soon presenting our junior class play, You Can't Kiss Caroline . Barbara Nuttelman served as head librarian, and Sharon Hayden headed the Forensic Club. Bonnie Buol won the associate editorship of the NESHONOC. Paul Ranum lead the Student Council. Sally Ranger, Dudley Wiese, and Tom Larson represented West Salem at Badger Girls' and Boys' State respectively. Eight boys played on the basketball team; seven participated in baseball. Sharon Powell represented us on the Homecoming Court, while Marilyn McClintock was our Harvest Queen candidate. The highlight of the year was the Junior-Senior prom, Paradise In Pink . Lester Olson and Pat Strittmater reigned as king and queen. Time marched on and we found ourselves seniors. Many of our members headed organizations. Sharon Wehrs, Georgia Havens, Frances Lee, and Tom Larson served as presidents of the Band, Thespians, Forensic, and Pep Club respectively. Barbara Nuttelman was at the helm of the FHA and Library Club. Bonnie Buol, editor of the NESHONOC, also held the presidency of the Student Council while Georgia Havens acted as Council secretary. Marilyn McClintock was president of the newly formed mixed chorus. Sharon Wehrs acted as business manager of the annual staff. Senior boys formed the nucleus of both the baseball and basketball teams. Helen Betthauser reigned as Harvest Queen and Mary Smith represented our class on the Harvest Court. As time brings to a close our high school days we wish to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the faculty who have given such sympathetic guidance during the past four years. The pleasant memories of our years at West Salem High School will always linger in our thoughts.
