7 e Tteurt, i t In September of 1950, forty-four somewhat timid but eager freshmen made their debut at West Salem High School. After dubiously accepting initiation as something which could not be by-passed, we anxiously turned our attention to various extra-curricular activities . F.F. A., F.H. A., Forensics , Pep Club , band, chorus and ORIOLE club claimed many of us. Representing us in both basketball and baseball were Ken Carlson and Karl Haverly. The Homecoming Court included Janice Meyer. Our freshman year soon passed, and we found ourselves as sophomores. Forty-three of us joyfully initiated the freshmen. Many of us found ourselves officers of clubs in which one year before we had been me re participants. Beverly Schild and Fred Schomberg were elected as cheerleaders. Serving on the baseball and basketball teams were Karl Haverly and Ken Carlson. Joan Kiesow represented the class on the Homecoming Court. Time flitted by rapidly and we found ourselves upperclassmen. We capably presented a three-act comedy, Meet Corliss Archer , as our class play; our prom, Somewhere Over The Rainbow , was a tremendous success. King Karl Haverly chose as his queen Janice Meyer. Fred Schomberg was re-elected as cheerleader, and Ken Carlson, Karl Haverly, and Dean Waldenberger played on the baseball team. Karl and Ken, who were elected to the Coulee Region All-Star team, participated in basketball, Greta Sprick became Head Librarian in her junior year and also associate editor of the ORIOLE. Jackie Vance was chosen associate editor of the NESHONOC. Many juniors heldoffices in various clubs. Ken Carlson, Galen Romskog, and Greta Sprick represented West Salem at Badger Boys1 and Girls' State respectively. Marie Stetzer was on the Homecoming Court. In no time at all, three years had passed, and we found ourselves faced with our goal--graduation. Seniors actively participated in every club and acted as officers of many. Heading the F.F.A. was Allen Sprain; F.H.A., Janice Meyer Pep Club, Fred Schomberg; band, Barbara Schomberg; and ORIOLE, Greta Sprick. Greta was also the athletic treasurer , an office she held for four year s. Jackie Vance edited our NESHONOC. Ken Carlson and Nancy Havens were business managers of the ORIOLE and NESHHONOC, respectively. Others holding offices in clubs were Marjorie Johnson, Mona Bruemmer, Beverly Schild, Gu-rine Whitlock, Marilyn Oldenburg, and Carol Rowe. Ken Carlson and Karl Haverly acted as co-captains of the basketball team. In the baseball squad were Dean Waldenberger, Ken and Karl. Beverly Schild was chosen as senior cheerleader. As our high school careers come to an end, we the class of 1 54 express our gratitude and appreciation to the faculty for the help and guidance which they have given us during these four important years of our young lives. Although we are leaving high school, we will never forget the memorable experiences West Salem High School has afforded us.
