Fifty-four enthusiastic FHA'ers rejoined the organization with the purpose of becoming better homemakers of the future. When the new members were initiated into the club at an impressive candlelight ceremony in January, the membership was increased to seventy. The State FHA Convention at Green Lake in June, 1951, was attended by three girls from West Salem. Mary Buol served as state vice-president of district three. Joyce Raymer was the candidate for a state office, with Barbara Rowe, the alternate. During vacation the girls carried out homemaking projects , many of them entering exhibits at the La Crosse Inter-State Fair. Several girls, accompanied by Miss Ruth Johnson, made the annual trip to the Wisconsin State Fair at Milwaukee. Under the guidance of their adviser, Miss Johnson, the FHA had a full year of interesting and varied activities. During FHA Week, November 4-10, in an effort to make people become aware of their organization, an activity was carried out each day. The FHA and FFA combined their efforts to make a success of the Harvest Festival in November and the Christmas Mixer in December. Other highlights of the year were sending CARE packages to the needy people in Europe, the Mother-Daughter Banquet, a style review, and the FHA demonstration contest. President ....
