Nam, v ,ig Mari rattle E IIIR CLASS HISTORY Motto Today We Follow Tomor1 ow Me Lead Colors Maroon and Gray Flower Carnation In the fall of 1948 the class of 52 entered the West Salem High School topping the enrollment of all other class es with forty two members After the unforgettable initiation day of November 5th w the shy freshmen became accustomed to high school life We had participants inFHA FFA Oriole staff chorus band baseball track and basketball Our sophomore year was eagerly looked forward to because it was our enrollment in our sophomore year our class was well represented in every or ganization Raymond Vanderploeg Robert Gilster Keith Meyer Harry Meinking Ronald Sch1ld and Kenneth Bangsberg were representatives on the basketballsquad whlle Raymond Vand erploeg Robert Gilster and Harry Meinking were outstanding baseball stars Our Student Council representa tives were Darryl Bruemmer Ronald Schild and Douglas Jewett Soon the year passed and the fall of 50 found us as Juniors As upper class men our class was againwell represent ed in socialand extra curricular activi ties Sixteen club offices were held by Juniors On the night of October Z7 1950 wepresentedourh1lar1ousthree act comedy The Inner Willy ' under the capable d1rect1on of Mrs Marie B Sanders Angelen Holter served as head librarian and was selected as associate editor of the Neshonoc West Salem s Badger Girls State and Badger Boys State Junior representatives were Donna Hemker Ronald Sch1ld and Darryl Bruemmer respectively Seven boys were on the basketball team and four boy s with Roger Kolseth on the mound President Vice president Secretarx T easurer Adviser Mrs M Sanders played baseball The second annual Homecoming found Ronald Schild King and Roger Kolseth and Marjorie Knutson represented our class on the court Highlighting the events of the year was the annual Junior Senior Prom on May4 Our theme was 'Hawuan Sunset ' and leading the grand march were Kmg Roger Kolseth and Queen Marjorie Knut son Larry Zieman and his orchestra furnished the music for the evening As we became sophisticated seniors even greater reality Many of the club offices were occupied by seniors Berniece Peterson was elected as pres ident of the Pep Club and served as cir culat1on manager of the Oriole Joyce Raymer was the newly elected pres ident of the FHA and Robert Gilster was chosen for the same position in the FFA Roger Kolseth occupied the pres 1dent's chair in the Student Council while Ronald Sch1ld Darryl Bruemmer and Lorna Balmer were class representa tives There were many seniors in the music department with three seniors holding offices mchorus Angelen Holter was selected editor chief of the Neshonoc and Merlien Jaekel was chosen as business manager Outstanding in basketball were Roger Kolseth Robert Gilster and Raymond Vanderploeg As we come to the end of our high school career we wish to express our gratitude to our teachers who have guid ed us through these four exciting years Even though we are leaving West Salem High School we will never forget the many memorable experiences that came our way during our four years of study Ronald Schild Douglas Jewett Mary Buol Lorna Balmer Mr L Qualley gt: uhh S: N-Z 4 1 4 I QF- 1, rg? f ' ' ' 4 -15 ' I 2: ' ' - Q. x . - --- -4' , ,I ,W - .F J if I' f 4 -1' J ' I 4- -TC-.Eg 'gr-.-L-3 ' df' I ' , ' ' as - 1 1 en r l ' . . , ..
