Donald Pellegrini HEADMASTER’S MESSAGE TO THE CLASS OF 1986 In June, Nineteen Hundred and Seventy-Seven West Rox- bury High graduates reminded us that many of their fondest memories emerged out of their experiences at Roslindale High School and that Westie was only an extension of “Old Rossie.” You are the tenth class to graduate and it is evident now, that as the years passed, a new and energetic aura has evolved in and among the students at West Roxbury High School. The tradition of excellence, passed on to you by your predecessors, embodied the virtues of hard work, dedication, team work and respect. You have done much to perpetuate this legacy and you have further enhanced our reputation — “Westie” is the “School of Champions.” Webster defines a champion, as an individual who protects another person or defends a cause — one who soars above all of the competition. Such noble qualities have helped you to recognize the basic human dignity in every individual. Personal¬ ly, I feel very proud to have played a small part in nuturing this compassionate awareness. Now, as you leave us, let the champion in each of you emerge; so that you will achieve individual success and hap¬ piness. Also, never forget that a real champion defends the less fortunate, and strives unselfishly to improve the life of his neighbors. GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS!! 14
