Ulla, go back to the time we first started the chores of learning Reading, Riting and Rithmatic. It was in the late summer of ‘44 when approximately 45 pupils whom partly make up the Senior Class looked at their first school teacher. It is so easy for us to remember the mis- chieveous things we did and the way every thing seemed to us. We were in school with a long road to follow. Some stayed on the road and others found things to them more suitable than school. New friends were to be made and some friendships that were made then have lasted through a period of twelve years. We will mark down in our history some of these friendships. Clifford Kerr and Franklin Meadows are two who are very outstanding in the boys. Both of these boys are outstanding figures in sports. Franklin has been our baseball pitcher for two years and a pretty good one we must mark down. Then Clifford, well Cliff liked baseball and was a fine leftfielder, but basketball was his most beloved of all sports. He has been very outstanding, during his high school career. We'll mark credit to him as being outstanding in that sport. Don Turman and Steven Edwards were two who have been friends for quite sometime. These two have even decided to go into a field of work which is closely related; their ambition is to be: Don, minister, and Steven, an agriculture missionary. There is Janette Poteat, Janet Dobbins, and Betty Watson who have been friends for 12 complete years. These three once started a trio and won several talent shows. They have been very outstanding in school work and all three were marshalls in their junior year. Gail Anderson, Jane Correll, Betty Goodman, and Shelby Rex Archie have also been outstanding and very good friends. Gail being a good forward on the basketball team and in her early years of high school seemed to love to visit Betty. Jane and Shelby are most outstanding in basketball, Shelby so far this year has scored 74 points. Anne Yount and Barbara Ervin were good friends also. Anne was our High School Queen in ‘56 and Barbara was elected to two superlatives. Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior history has been made in the field of school work. As we look back to the Reading, Writing, and now term our Rithmatic as Alge- bra and Math, we will always remember each thumb tack we placed in the teacher’s seat each time we stood in the corner, and sure, we threw spit-balls too! The prophecy of the class tells our future and all each senior can do to the other is wish them the best success. We can term our history as wonderful memories, no wars, no discoveries except human discovery. Friendships, happiness, the act of learning co-operation and above all, how wonderful it is to find a teacher who is willing to help you, and always say nice things about you. This could be none other than our Senior teacher, Miss Ina Stevenson. ; BETTIE WATSON Historian Class Prophecy Well Oscar Boom, this is a wonderful surprise, | never dreamed you would ask me to come see Dr. Wumnbug’s famous time machine. | have always kept up with your and Ally Oop’s adventures into the past but my primary interest is whether the machine can project people into the future. | have been elected Class Prophetess and would like to find out what all my classmates will be doing ten years from now. “Well, Anne, Dr. Wumnbug isn’t here at the present, he’s back in the seventeenth century with Ally Oop, but | think it would be a simple operation to send you ten years into the future.” Before | realize it I’m standing in a time machine waiting for Dr. Boom to flip the switch. Sure hope this thing works. Well, that wasn’t too rough, here | am on a ship, the admiral seems strangly familiar, why yes, that’s Gene Weaver and he’s talking to Steven Edwards, a missionary who has just returned from the Belgian Congo with his native wife. I'll give Dr. Boom the signal to send me to an- other location. Well, Mt. Ulla sure has grown; over there | see a dance hall and the owner is Mary Sue Waller and husband. As | wander along | pass two large prosperous dairy farms owned by Pete Hallyburton and Don McBride. A little farther | see a white cottage with a picket fence with two little girls playing basketball, that could be no one but Shelby Rex's children, now Mrs. Gilbert Archie. On down the road there are four little red- headed boys playing in the yard. As their mother comes out of the door and calls them for supper, | recognize her to be Doris McBride, now Mrs. Dan Mowery. As | approach another nearby home, two women are gossiping over the back fence, why yes, that’s Betty Childress and Shirley Estes. If | can get a little closer maybe | can hear what they are saying: Betty Watson has married Clifford Kerr, who is a professional basketball player. Frances Orbison is now the star of the Grand Ole Oprey, Minnie Frances. At last Gail Anderson couldn’t wait on Harry Kerr any longer, so she broke down and proposed. Shelby Goodman is one of the Cracker Jacks and also producing her own shows on NBC. | hear that Janette Poteat is a model in New York and that Janet Dobbins is an opera singer at Carnegie Hall. | think I’ll go over to the school house and see what changes have taken place. Jane Correll is now coaching the girls basketball team. Jane stopped to converse for awhile. | learned that Peggy Turman gave up her career as an airline hostess to marry Wallace Beaver and that Julia Winecoff married a millionaire. As | pass by Central Methodist Church, Don Turman the only bachelor minister in the district, is performing a marriage ceremony for Tommy Knox and his latest wife. As the ceremony cli- maxes, the couple leave the church to an await- ing rocket ship piloted by Onlie McLaughlin. | get only a tiny glimpse of the rocket as it ascends, the sign painted on it says “Mars or Bust.” lll give Dr. Boom the signal. Nearing the Hawai- ian Islands | hear beautiful soft music floating over the waves, on the shore stands Betty Good- man, now Mrs. Bruce Penly, with her two lovely little girls swaying in the breeze keeping time with the music. Returning to the United States | stop to pay a call on Steven Atwell, who owns his own cattle ranch in Texas. Signaling again | am switched to New York, the famous news center of the world, | find myself in front of the New York Times Building. | can almost hear the announcer, why that voice belongs to Paul Moose. | think I'll stay and hear his news broadcast. From the world of sports, | learned that Franklin Meadows has signed a $50,000 contract with the New York Yankees. Kenny Wiggins is building and racing his favorite car, a Chevrolet. Wait just a minute the program is being inter- rupted by a special news bulletin, of course, the Up to minute accounts are shown by photographs taken by Paul’s faithful photographer, Barbara Ervin. As the broadcast returns, another one of my classmates, John Kepler has made himself famous in the medical world. At the end of the broad- cast | hurry on my way for time is getting short. On down Broadway, | stop ata sign that reads, Art Instruction, 1900 East Broadway, instructor Rachel Rex. | would read on but the noise is ter- rific, it is coming from a large crowd gathered at the end of the street. | will see if | can get a little closer and get a glimpse of what is happen- ing, of all things a sight seeing bus driven by Bill Edwards. This would be a good way to end my trip. The first sight | see is the Empire State Building, but getting closer | see that it isn’t the Empire State Building, but one even higher, the contractors are Dale Cobb, Robert Connelly, and Bobby Brown. I'm glad they achieved their dream of constructing a building larger than the Empire State Building. As | journey on, | come to the famous Brooklyn Bridge. What does that sign read, why heavens it says Barney Goodman owner a nd proprietor, he gives his residence as Wall Street, he must be doing better than | thought, the last time | saw him he owned only 20 penthouses. Well that is the last of my classmates, | hope nothing has gone wrong with the time machine I'd hate to get stuck up here in 1966 and have to wait for everyone else to catch up with me. | wonder if Jack Benny is still thirty-nine!!! Thanks Dr. Boom I'll be seeing you in the funny paper.
