19 The Keepsake S PA RS itss Mt. Ulla High School Mt. Ulla, North Carolina February, 1944 Dear Miss Bowles: Since you were our mathematics teacher, it seems that you would be interested in the Statistics of the 1944 senior class, so I will relate them to you. With the teachings all of the teachers have given us, I know we all have good mental foundation and when I looked at the Statistics I found that we averaged a good physical foundation. Our shoe size averaging 7¥2. The girls sporting a 6% and the boys an 82. Of course the girls in the class aren't geometric figures but some rank high as far as figures go. Their height varies from 5’ to 5’7¥2 ’ and their weight from 80 to 135 lbs. The boys are rather outstanding too. Their weight averages 149 lbs. and their height 5'9”. At first glance you can see that brown hair is predominant but I must not fail to mention the blondes, sandies and reds who have attracted so much attention from the opposite sex and stirred up rivalry among themselves. Naturally the boys seem to be looking into the future more than the girls. Most of them want to be pilots and their favorite subject in school is Physical Education. You see they are preparing themselves to pass their physical examination, while the greater portion of the girls want to be nurses but have chosen typing as their favor- ite subject. It doesn't sound logical, does it? You can see from the foregoing paragraph that pilots are rather popular; so is the Army Air Corps Song which was chosen, though love songs were the favorites of some of the seniors who seem to think they are in love. As usual the Democrats outnumber the Republicans but it is unusual to find someone who is neither. Perhaps he will belong to either party instead of neither. Our Statistics show that our class is composed of various religious denomina- tions—fifteen Lutherans, thirteen Presbyterians, twelve Methodists and three Baptists. Our class, being very intelligent and hard working, is graduating after only four years in high school with the exception of five pupils, who just loved those stories in their English books so much, they wanted to hear them over and over. Of course, we all liked English which was indicated by the selection of Miss Bost as our favorite teacher. Although the votes for the western and air corps movies were numerous, the most votes were for a real war and romantic movie, which was ‘So Proudly We Hail.” According to the Statistics the girls and boys have chosen Betty Grable and Greer Garson as their favorite movie stars, with Bob Hope and John Mack Brown thrown in to furnish entertainment. Our taste for radio programs varies greatly. It can be divided into two parts, musical and feature. The musical programs vary from “The Grand Ole Opera” to “The New York Philharmonic’’ and the feature programs vary from The Lone Ranger’ to “Blondie and Dagwood.” ‘The Lux Theatre’ was chosen the favorite radio program of the class. I found that the majority of the seniors have blue eyes and have chosen blue as their favorite color. Most of the seniors consider the Junior-Senior Ball and Graduation the most outstanding events of this year. Now, I have come to the place when there aren't any more Statistics to relate to you. My only hope is that this letter will bring back to your mind pleasant thoughts and lingering memories of this bright and happy senior class. Sincerely yours, CAROL ERWIN, Statistician. 44
