Mrs Grace Hamilton Mrs. Ann Gasser CLERK SECRETARY aczZaczZrJaui---- - - - The Middle States Association oi Colleges and Secondary Schools through its Commission on Secondary Schools conducted a high school evaluation in Vvest Reading on April 9-10-1 1, 1957. Arrangements were made by the schooi's administration with Dr. ira R. Krayhiii. executive secretary oi the Commission, to send a visiting committee to West Reading High School. The co-operative study of Secondary School Standards was organized in 1933 for the purpose of determining the characteristics of a good secondary school, finding practical means and methods ol evaluating the effectiveness of the school, determining the means and processes with which to develop better schools and devising ways hy which the association can stimulate and assist schools in continuous growth. To these ends a study was carried out which resulted in the Evaluative Criteria 1950 edition. These criteria are a set oi standards that are used to measure the growth and effectiveness ot the school. ' West Reading High School was evaluated by the Middle States Associa- tion oi Colleges and Secondary Schools in February ot 1946. in order for the West Reading High School to remain in the association and on the accredited list it must he evaluated every ten years. Therefore, the ten-year evaluation was due in 1956. Since the high school principal, Mr. Edwin Yeich, was ill at that time, the evaluation was postponed until April 9, 10, and ll of 1957. Prior to the arrival of an evaluation committee in any school, the school staff undertakes a self-evaluation based on the evaluation standards in the Eval- uation Criteria 1950 edition. Committees of the West Reading High School Stall have been lousy most of the 1955-56 and 1956-57 terms preparing this sell-evaluation, which continued until the Evaluation committee arrived in April. Vvhen the evaluation committee arrived at the school, this sell-evaluation. prepared hy the school staff, was given to the committee, and then the committee proceeded to examine every function of the school.
